I guess it is basic tech these days
Sep. 14th, 2012 07:29 pmSo, I called in the order as I left work.
I thought it was strange they didn’t ask for my name with the order, but figured I’d just ask for what I ordered.
When I got there I found they had my order ready by my name as they matched my cellphone number on my phone in to my previous orders.
I guess that is good.
But, a bit strange.
The first of the new parts for the machine I’ve been working on for the last 6 months are starting to come in. These are only the first preliminary test parts to see if our concepts will even work. IF they do, we’ll expand it to the whole machine. If not we’ll come up with some thing new.
What really amazes me is the sterolithography parts. (I’ve used them for years, so it isn’t anything new. The first time I saw parts made this way was back in 1989.)
These are parts made by taking my computer file and running it through a 3D printer that creates what was in the file without any machining, molding, casting or other process.
So, I document what I imagine on the computer, and these parts are made directly from that.
If they weren’t $100 a piece, I’d probably be tempted to have a lot more of the things I think about done this way.
