When I got my review last week, of the things my boss told me the CEO complained about was my note taking.
No, not that I don’t take good notes.
No, not that I don’t share my notes with others.

His complaint is that I take “low tech” notes.
I used to use a Palm Pilot and keyboard to take notes. Now, I just use a pad of paper. He feels that my switching shows I don’t care any more.
I said how all I thought it proved was that when 10 year old Palm V’s break, you can’t get replacements for them.

But, if High tech notes will get the CEO to think better of me, and therefore get bigger raises and bonuses, then I’m willing to make the initial investment.

So, I’m going to get a new Palm, and the “freaking laser” keyboard .

If that won’t do it, nothing will.

bah... you need a note taking robot

rig up one of those wowee type bots with a mic, so he holds it up to whomever is speaking at the time, perhaps with one hand on some earphones on his head

That would be cool.
The last person who worked here left to get his masters in robotics. Maybe if I call him....

Robot long term. Laser short term.

Charge Number.

No, and I don't want it. Then, they could say it was theirs.

My ancient Palm is chugging along still, but mostly it just stores names and addresses - I've stopped trying to keep notes on it as I was always looking for new batteries so that I could get the notes out of it. I am a big advocate of plain pencil and paper - it has been millennia since the invention of paper and at least 450 years since the invention of the pencil, and there are still few things as versatile or easy to use, or which provide records that can last for many years and still be perfectly legible. Granted, it isn't sexy, but it works. I keep a daily journal of all my technical notes on plain old pencil and paper as well.

Now, I gotta see if I can make a laser-wielding, note taking robot that I could market and sell to engineers. Would you pay more if it looked like a cyber-man ?

I was happy with paper and pen. (Not pencil, sorry.)
But, if the CEO needs me to WOW him, and it doesn't mean World Of Warcraft, then that's what I'll do.

EDIT: Maybe I'd pay more for a Cyberman. It would depend on how much more.
Personally, I'd rather something that ran back and forth over the paper like a robot mouse and left writing behind instead of mouse turds.

It may worry some who know what it is, but you could always get a laptop (sorry, Windows only at this point) and the USB Tachikoma:

In theory, that would not only give you lasers (targeting & LIDAR only, I'm afraid), but a chain gun, assuming Bandai fit those in the little guy....
