Last week when I was a few thousand miles away from my wife, we used our video phones to talk with each other. The hardest part of the experience was figuring out how prop up the phone so we didn’t have to hold it in front of us the whole time.

When we were at the museum Saturday, my wife saw a reference book they left in one of the galleries for people to use. I took a photo of the cover with my phone, submitted it to Amazon.com, it analyzed the image, found the book in stock and it offered to sell me my own copy.

When I was young, that’s the kind of stuff you saw on science fiction shows. My iPhone does more than the comlinks on Space 1999. OK, it’s 14 years after 1999 too, so maybe it should.

Everyone, including me, complains about the lack of flying cars. But, some of the stuff we did get is pretty cool.

Part of me is glad we don't have flying cars. I don't think that many MA drivers could handle it.

Yup. Feel the same way, I'm blown away with the stuff we have, and somewhat frustrated at the cooler stuff we don't.

Although arguments about firearms and related amendments to be argued about Phasers and Light Sabres would be I think even MORE obnoxious than
the 'primitive' firearms we're using/whining about now.

I agree, though, about the Flying Cars. People can't be bothered to not be texting or yapping on phones distracted as it is. Now they're talking about
a Cornea implant with LED's for a heads-up display projected into your fricken Eyes.

Too. Many. Distractions.

I think there would be a big advantage to weapons that could be "set for stun"...

I've been tempted to try to develop a device that could do what Mr Spock's tricorder could do - though a fair amount of it can be done with a smart phone and some add-on hardware these days.

A device that could move the plot along when needed?
That would be a great app! I'd buy it!
