I still have flashbacks about this one every time I'm at the dentist.

In less than an hour it will be 2 to the 5th power years since I gave up drinking.
2x2x2x2x2
That’s a fair number of years.

And yet, it is still tempting to me.
I still have to say no to that little voice saying “go ahead”.

At least this year I don’t have to do on a mandatory company pub crawl where they give out free drinks to people. Not quite so hard to avoid it in a day of staff meetings.

29 years

It was 29 years ago today that I first said no to a drink.
Despite much temptation, I have continued saying no for the intervening 10592 days.
I intend to continue that trend...

It is over half my life ago I gave up alcohol. I can’t deny there are
plenty of times I’m tempted to fall off of that wagon. But, so far I have
not had any trouble staying on.

But, this week I have been tempted by my other addiction.
I miss caffeine.
It’s been 27 ½ years since I gave up alcohol. But, it’s only been 3 since
I gave up caffeine.
And, on cold, wet weeks like this when work is not going well and I’m not
getting much sleep?
It is very hard not to reach for a cup of tea or a diet soda.

Being my 20th wedding anniversary today, I was looking back at other big milestones in my life.

Doing the math, as I do, I realized that yesterday was 10,000 days since I stopped drinking.
So, today is 10,001 days without a drink.
That's not bad.
