One of the things I mentioned to my sister in her birthday letter is that I
plan on going through Cardiff when in Wales and hope to stop by that place
the Tardis has been known to land from time to time.
As my sister gave me a Tardis key for Christmas in 1978 (see the icon I’m
using on this post), if the Tardis is there when I am, I promised to go
back and thank her in 1978.

There are a few flaws in this plan.
1) It is a Tardis key as used by the 3rd and 4th Doctor. To the best of my
knowledge, they have not been seen in Cardiff. Only the 9th and 10th, and
they use different keys. So, my key may not work.
2) Even if I manage to find and unlock the Tardis with my key, it is not
known for being that reliable on getting people to one particular
time/place like Christmas 1978, While Christmas 9178 might be fun, it
won’t get me to my sister.
3) There exists the tiniest chance that a functioning Tardis might not just
be waiting there when I get there. I know, that sounds crazy, but you have
to admit the possibility when making plans.

So, backup plan time.
If I can’t get a Tardis ride back to 1978, how should I get back there?

And, I’ve got to be careful about this. A remarkably high number of
methods of time travel have bad steering.

YOU FORGOT ONE!!

How could you NOT want to jump into a slightly modified Delorean with a mad scientist to take you back to the right time and place. You only have to get the Delorean up to 88 MPH, and that is common enough in MA during the rush hour (as long as you use the break down lane)....

This is the one that I'd have voted for, anyway. And, it is SCIENCE!

Lead time on ordering those flux capacitors is incredibly long..sad!

Well, I don't know when Doc would be in Wales, but I was assuming that your sister was going to be in Massachusetts in 1978 anyway, and you could just use the car to drive to the house..

In 78? They didn't go into production until 81!

Why would that matter? They still used one in the 1880s?!

Because, the car isn't in production yet. It would stand out.
And, they would probably think it was Commander Edward Straker's car from UFO. (Same doors.)
So the UFOs would blast me to pieces!

Yes, it would stand out - though I'd bet most people on the road wouldn't have known it from a period Ferrari or Lamborghini Countach anyway. Certainly, I don't think it would be any more out of place than a big blue phone booth that said "POLICE" on it in an American city! LOL

You always have to keep an eye out for the UFOs, though - good point!

I played that guy with the dark hair and beard in a movie college movie that was filmed around the Back Bay in Boston... It was rather amusing considering my generous female build....and boy did the beard and mustache itch. I think I have an allergy to spirit gum.

Maybe you could meet up with River Song, and her vortex manipulator, if she is researching the rift for her studies on the Doctor.

I think the Master might be less dangerous than River...

or you could jump on the stargate back to 1969 when they go too close to a sun flare... then ride the bus with the hippies from woodstock for a while. =)

Yeah. I did think of that one. But, I didn't think I could aim it well enough.

I know Ba'al has the thing to predict it, but I don't think I could get it away from him. Or, his clones.

His pride has always been his downfall you know. That and he always was a little too fond of us humans. After some kissing up, he may have let you use it once.

magic all the way!! i mean, heck, this is WALES. find a witch/Druid/faery, explain your predicament, and go where they send you. or, eat whatever they tell you to. you'll be in 1978 in no time!

or, um, perhaps you simply won't care that you aren't...
