Bad driving in the rain

Yesterday it fell to me to deliver the groceries to the house of ick. My Mother In Law was going to see the doctor in the morning and didn’t know when she’d get back. So, I had to take my best guess, then drive the hour through the rain to her place.

The drive there wasn’t bad. Her appointment was at 11 and I got there at 2 to make sure she’d be home.
“Why did you come so late?” she asked me.
“Why didn’t you say when you’d be back?” I asked her.
“Put the groceries over there,” she said.
(I will also point out that her doctor’s appointment was only 20 minutes from my place. Suggestions that I meet her there, put the groceries in her trunk and let her drive the rest of the way with them so I could go home were not well received.)
The way out had been fine, but the way home was fraught with peril.
Trucks pulling out right in front of me on rainy roads.

Cars trying to turn right from the left lane.

And lots of people trying to pick up fallen trees in the rain, 6 months after they fell over.

I feel bad for those guys working in the rain, but do feel if they had started a bit sooner they might have got it done in the drought we had from March to May instead of a very rainy June...
