Looks better than it felt

One of the new things we wanted to try in our fire shows this year was a fire hat. My wife made one up out of wire that was twisted sort of like ram’s horns on either side of my head.
She put wick on the curls. We put fuel on the wick. I put it all on my head. The flame was applied.

The “cape” I’m wearing is a fire proof blanket so dripping fuel wouldn’t set my shirt or me on fire.
I think the picture looks really cool. I don’t know if that’s really what it looked like as my face was being cooked by the gobs of flame to either side of my head and I couldn’t really be objective about it. I took it for as long as I could, then dumped the hat and we put it out.
It’s a good idea. But, we either need bigger horns that hold it farther away, less flame, or something else to stop me from being flame broiled.
I’m sure my wife will figure out a way to get it done.

Date: 2008-07-25 03:48 pm (UTC)It isn't how I thought it would look...
I thought the curls would be more visible. But, they aren't on the vertical holders when they flame up, so I guess I should be surprised...
