When we were visiting my cousins over Christmas, my cousin Katie LOANED me two big photo albums from her mother, my father’s sister.

Growing up my father hardly ever spoke of his family, we almost never met with them and I knew very little about them.

I really didn’t start getting to know my cousins on that side of the family until I was in my 20’s. I get along with them much better than with most of my mother’s family.
But, I still don’t know as much about the history of that side of the family as I would like.

So, to be loaned these books on family history is a big deal for me.

I want to scan them to keep a copy of them. But, how to do it was a bit of a problem. I don’t want to take the up to century old photos out of the album to scan, and my flatbed scanner didn’t fit them very well.

Yesterday I bought one of those wand scanners that you can pass over things. This morning I tried it on some of the pages and they seem to have come out pretty well.

This is my grandfather and his 1913 medical class.

My grandparents wedding photos.

Their wedding certificate from 100 1/2 years ago.

Family members, including my father from 90+ years ago.

There’s a lot more to go through. But, it’s a start.

Your grandparents got married 100 years ago?

Oh yes, this March will be the 100th anniversary of my father's birth. A whole 9.5 months after they got married. Didn't waste time, that's for sure.

Errrm ... my mum was born 3 months after the wedding? Or so ... *lol*

So your dad was already quite old when you were born?

My dad was 48 when I was born, 50 when my brother was born.
His father had died at 49, so the fact he made it to 85 was pretty good.

Those old photos are great - it's also great that someone has labeled everything :) I started scanning old family photos a year or two ago - I feel so lucky to have the ones I have, but wish there were more to see :)

Old photos are always fascinating, even if one doesn't really know the people on it. And even more so if it's the own family, of course.

I love old photos! I like that they're labeled too, having tons of old unlabeled photos is the worst!

These were scanned in a wand scanner?? I always wondered about them. The quality looks amazing.

I really enjoying looking at the old photos as well. Thanks for sharing.

(how big of a photo/piece of paper can you scan in??)

It is about a normal page of paper wide. So, you can roll it down the paper to get a whole page.
