The faire was indeed over the River Styx.

We knew what that means and were ready.

There were more signs for "Frite Nites" than the faire, but we still managed to find our way.

It is not exactly downtown Mobile.

But, locals told me that the road it is on is a well known landmark, and they seemed surprised I didn’t know it. (Why it was well known was not explained.)

After almost 2 days in the car everyone was happy and joyous to get to the faire site.

(But, might not have liked my taking photos of them…)

The site is nice, fairly large and has some shade. That last one is very nice.

Having found our spot on the site it was a matter of unpacking and setting up.

We only had to cut one knot away.

As predicted New England leaves were brought to Alabama.

There was quite a dip in the ground in our tent. My wife liked it as when I stood it in she was almost as tall as me. But, then I got out of it.

The Normans of the Southern Sun have a tent with a similar color scheme. Sadly, it was damaged in the wind Friday night, and they switched to another.

I’ve never really understood the connection between these and the faire, but they are a long term fixture.

But, others wanted to get to the hotel and get dinner.

Our hotel was nice and had a sofa that turned into a bed.

They don’t allow smoking or pets, so we could actually breathe there.

Then, it was off to the Home Despot to look for something to use as chairs as we couldn’t fit them in the car on the way down.

Cement blocks and boards work as a bench.

Then, dinner.

My wife said I should take a photo of these clouds.

With only 4 of us there, we didn’t get as many photos of the actual show as normal. But, we did 3 Saturday and 4 Sunday.

But, everyone loves the knights…

We did give some sword lessons, but not many.

Look, a pineapple LED light!

That night we ate at the truck stop that had a pirate ship convenience register area.

Food was good, even if not fast…
It was quite dark before we got back to the hotel.

We were in the same hotel as the raptor people. The raptors tried to get us to let them into the hotel. We didn’t.

In the morning they tried to get us to take them to breakfast, we didn’t.

They would have been upset anyhow as we had eggs…

Sunday we were up early and ready to go. Daylight savings ending with an extra hour of sleep didn’t hurt.

Of course, the same extra hour meant we were going to be in total darkness for our last show.
So, we charged up the solar powered LED lights.

We did our best to follow our schedule, but the last show moved from 5 to 6.

We did have a nice visit with Don and Diedre.

They hadn’t been at GCRF in March, so it had been quite some time since we had last seen them.

I had some candy Legos. But didn’t build much of a castle.

I have no idea why we were waving here.

Of course, more shows on Sunday.

We were friends with the magistrate and arranged to have a certain singing group locked up…

I do worry some about how these folks load their cannon. I wouldn’t want to be over it like that. But, I don’t work with gunpowder.

They do put on a good show with some good sword fights.

Due to the time of our last show, we packed up early so it wasn’t total dark when we did it.

I used my infra-red camera for the fire show. It had gotten cold before we started.

When it was time to get our stuff, I was glad of the lights.

We went off to another place for dinner and left the proper pirate tip. Chocolate coins…

What/who are the raptor people?

Did you talk about this in your previous entry? I can't seem to recall it....

River Styx? Huh? Okay ... was that enough money for the ferryman?

Why does every pirate group have a Jack Sparrow look-a-like?

The toll is a penny on each eye, right?
That does make it hard to drive...

I could certainty live without Jack. But, they think he's great. The crowd seemed indifferent...

I always love seeing your photos. I especially like the knight on the horse... but that's probably just because I love horses! So cute!

The infra-red pics are really interesting too.
