I know computers are into everything these days.
But, I hadn’t really understood how much until I couldn’t get my laundry done because of computer problems.
There is a service where I work that will come and pick up your shirts once a week and bring them back two business days later cleaned and ironed.
While it does cost more than doing it myself, I really hate ironing and was willing to pay other people to do it.
But, today they emailed me and said my laundry wouldn’t be ready because of computer problems and they’ll bring it by Friday instead.
I’ve got plenty of shirts, so that isn’t a problem.

My question is: If they could email me to tell me this, how can their computers not be running and why can’t I get my shirts?
Hmmm…

When I went to check after the delivery time, one of my five shirts put in Friday was there.
How does a computer problem get me 20% of my laundry?
Very strange…

In other news, I finally gave up on my racist printer (it wouldn’t print black) and bought a new one that is more diverse.
This one does all sorts of things like print all colors, scan, fax and email.

HP, who makes it, now has a service where the printer will email HP when it is low on ink and HP will send you more before you need it.
That sounds fine in theory. But, they charge you for doing it. How much they charge you depends on how much you print a month.
That would make sense if the charge includes the ink. But, it doesn’t. This is just a charge to keep track of what your ink level is.
I get it that doing so requires bandwidth and bandwidth isn’t free. But, it is still a bit strange.

I still decided to try it. I signed up for the lowest level, which is 50 pages a month for $3. I figure I’ll pay ten cents a day to live in the future and have the auto delivery.
But, it is a bit strange that if I print more than expected on my own printer in my own home with ink I paid for, they charge me extra. It does have roll over pages. So, if I don’t use all 50 pages a month I get to carry over the ones I don’t use, up to 50 more pages a month.
We’ll see how that works out.
I don’t normally print much these days. It might be OK.
But, if I get charged too much for using my own printer, I’ll go back to living in the past and having to go to the store for ink.

My work laptop has been very strange about its display lately.
Normally when I work I keep it on a docking station and it displays to a monitor on my desk.
But, lately, it hasn’t liked doing that. I don’t know why.
It seems to have the issue the most if I use it with another projector. When I go back to my desk it won’t reconnect with the normal one.
I’ve tried restarting the computer, the monitor, and reseating all the cables.
The only thing I’ve found that works is going back to a conference room, plugging the laptop into a projector and then telling it to ignore the projector.
Then, it will work with another screen back in my office.

I’d put it down to a quirk of the laptop, but I’ve been using it since the start of June and it has only started doing it this last week.
Very strange.

Computers are so weird.

My husbands was fine and dandy until I turned on the wifi, and it went nuts trying to connect to it even though it was connected by cable already.

While I can fix a lot of problems with technology, I don't like to. I'd rather they just behave themselves.

that all sounds really extreme.

i would go back to go to the shop and buy cartridges myself. No way I'm going to let HP decide ho much i need to print in a month. That's absurd!!

It is a bit strange with the inkk. I'm told I can cancel at any time. So, if it annoys me I will just get rid of it. But, it will hopfully end the (many) times I've run out of ink late at night and had to wait to print something.

You ought to ask the laundry service how computer problems affect the laundry being ready! :P

My laptop doesn't like to be docked in after using it on a projector either ... but then it's old and on its last legs ...

Interesting problem about the shirts ...
