The two days of meetings in Georgia went well.
Now, I'm trying to get home.
Traffic in Atlanta is horrible 24/7. My wife got on Google and gave me advice on it as I drove along.
I still managed to get to the airport 3 1/2 hours early for my flight.
I tried to get on an earlier flight to Boston, but it was full. I could have paid $259 to be put on standby with no guarantee of a seat.
I declined that offer.
So, off to Milwaukee and then Boston.
Hope all goes well.

It's odd. From an efficiency viewpoint, airlines should GLADLY try to give you an earlier flight. When you check in, they should automatically look for empty seats, and say, "We've automatically rebooked you to flight XYZ, leaving in 40 minutes, if you hurry through security you can make it". Shoving people out the gate earlier costs them nothing, while reduces the risk of having to bump people at great expense on later overbooked flights.

It is even worste than that. They are saying that is is $259 cheaper to take me an extra 1000 miles to the west, process me through a second airport and burn all that extra fuel rather than take me direct.

Wouldn't the company have paid for the upgrade?

No, I'm afraid not. I already had reservations they paid for on the other flights. Having me home a couple of hours earlier does the company no direct good, so they wouldn't pay for it.
IF it was going to cost me time at work, they might. But, getting home late doesn't cut into their time for me at the office, only the amount of time I get at home for myself.
