Florida day 2
Dec. 22nd, 2012 09:14 amYesterday morning it was quite sunny outside.

But, it was much cooler than the day before. The day we got here it was 78F/26C, yesterday morning it was only 52F/11C. And, it was quite windy on top of it.
I put on a sweater.
We wanted to see the Orlando Museum of Art (http://www.omart.org/ ) so drove up to the north side of town.
Not knowing how long it would take to get through Orlando traffic, we left early and got there before it opened.
So, we walked around the park some.

We did feel quite welcome there as they had inscribed my wife's name into the sidewalk.

We had also talked of going to the arboretum, but two things put us off. One, they only seem to offer guided tours that you have to schedule. Two, they seem to devote a lot of their promotional material to what to do if you are bitten by a snake.

We did not see any snakes in the park. I looked.
We had heard about the "sculpture garden" at the art museum. We were surprised to find it fairly limited.

Only one artist, only one type of sculpture. But, we still looked at it until they open.
Unlike many art museums we see up north, NO PHOTOS! in this one. They're pretty strict about it and came over to check me out when I was only writing down the names of some artists.
They also got a lot of kids on a school trip the day before vacation. So, it got noisy.
There was one funny thing when we were in the African section. There was a photo of some people dancing. The sign next to it said it was the wedding of Nelson Mandella's grandson.
"You know that's the wedding of Nelson Mandella's grandson," the gallery guide said coming up to me.
"Yes, I did know that," I said.
"Really? How did you know that?"
"It's written on this sign right there," I said, pointing to the sign.
"You READ THE SIGN?" she asked.
I guess that's rare there.
After that we drove over to the Morse Museum as they have a collection of Tiffany glass and my wife loves glass.
They are another NO PHOTO! place.
After I asked when we went in, the guard came up to me.
"We've got lots of photos on line," he said. "Use those photos and claim they are yours. No one will know."
So, if the guard is right, go look at these and pretend they're mine:

I know I usually take photos of benches at art museums. But, no photos. The Morse does have quite a bit of very nice furniture that I used while my wife looked at the glass.
Winter Park, where the Morse Museum resides, is a VERY upscale place. One of those places where it can be nice to look in the window, but I'm not sure I could afford the price tag on the items they show, never mind the item itself.
But, they do have bears on the sidewalk, so that is nice.

And, they have fish in their shopping areas.

We had lunch at a Cuban Bistro: www.latinbistrocubancafe.com
It is very good and the folks there very friendly.
Towards evening we went over to where my cousin Katie and her husband live.

It is a very nice place with a good view of International Drive.
We went for dinner over on International at a place called The Pub.

I guess everyone who works there has to wear a kilt, male or female.

Our waiter, Juan, seemed offended when my cousin's husband mentioned he didn't know very many Juan's from London.
The food was OK. Maybe it would have been better if that was not brought up...
At the end, they give you a tip sheet in several languages. There is also some sort of map on the back. My theory is that if you give enough of a tip you're asked back to the waiter's house.

After that we went back to our cousins and visited for a fair bit of time. There was also much reviewing and adjusting of their iDevices.
I was a nice visit.
