#13) Foods you love and foods you hate
This is a tough one. I like a lot of food.
And, that has always showed. Except for highschool when I was swimming
several miles a day, I’ve always been overweight.
A few years ago when my doctor told me “lose weight or go on high blood
pressure pills” I went on a fairly restrictive diet. I lost 70 pounds
before my next physical. She said “not good enough, you go on the pills
anyhow”. So, I went back to eating what I liked and the weight came back.
(I have pointed out to her, several times, that my BP is a good 20 points
higher than normal when she is the one taking it, or I know she is about to
see me. This has been proven with other visits to her office when I didn’t
see her. But, I digress.)
My mother was, and probably still is, a very bad cook. My father had no
sense of smell. As that is a very large component of taste, he was very
easy to please in the food department. And, my mother cooked to his taste,
or lack thereof.
So, when I hit my 20’s and discovered good cooking it made a big impression
on me.
I do have a fair number of allergies, including several food based ones.
Milk, raw onions, eggplant and certain types of preservatives.
But, generally, I love most food. I hate food that makes me sick.
I generally prefer fruits, meats & grains over vegetables. But, there are
plenty of vegetables I think are OK.
