Today was the second day at the Silver Kingdom’s faire.
At some point I’ll write more about that and edit the photos.
But, what really stood out for me was: when I was walking back to the car I saw some groundhogs.
Last year I spent a lot of time trying to get photos of the groundhogs near where I work.

Today, as I walked up the hill, I saw two little groundhogs playing in the grass.

When they saw me, they ran to the tall grass.

They have not yet learned that just running to the edge of the grass does not make them invisible.

I was somewhat curious as I’ve never seen ground piglets out without the mother around before. So, I looked around a bit more.
There, actually quite close to me, was the mother.

She was right on the path into the area where the piglets were. I’m glad I had stopped walking or I might have had to find out how tough my boots really were.
When I pointed the camera at her and took a step forward, she made a noise and all of them disappeared into the brush.

They’re pretty much the only kind of rodent I like. And, I think that is because I can never get close enough for my allergies to kick in.
It was very cool to see them, especially frolicking in the field. Clearly no raptors overhead today.

Actually, I took those pictures walking up the hill to get my car at the end of the day.
Sorry. If I had known you'd want to see them I could have shown you.
You're out there at that site more than me. So, you can look for them next time. They were about half way down the hill from the barn.

it's OK. you were meant to see them. :) although that halfway down the hill from the barn thing makes me think they're going to HATE the resumption of summer larp season next weekend. i will look for them then. lol. probably find them cursing me out (from a safe distance) ala Bill Murray's driving companion.

I really love groundhogs, they're such a treat to watch. My FIL has a family of them under his deck and sometimes they will come play on the deck when we're over there, it's always fun to watch.

They can be cute little buggers, but farmers really dislike them. And, they can really raise havoc if you have a vegetable garden. But they can be fun to watch when they're playing the grass like that!

Yeah, my one encounter with the varmints was in college. I tried to grow a veggie garden one year, but the groundhog that was living next to our bulkhead thought I was growing him a salad bar. =(
