A tragic fire prop accident
Jun. 10th, 2012 08:56 pmGoing to practice today we stopped at storage and put a few things away.
As we drove down the highway towards practice, I saw two things fly off the roof.

A close look showed it was our S shaped fire staffs. Sadly, one in the high speed lane, one in the center lane.

I ran back to get them. I had to wait for the traffic to clear some. While I waited for the cars to let up, one got hit 3 times, the other once. And, who knows how often they were hit before I ran back to where they were?

Of course, these are the newest things we’ve added to the fire show and no one was really that good with them. But, Jose had been working hard to learn them. And, he took their being run over hard.

But, on to practice.
The firebird is going well.

Koschei the Deathless made an appearance as a gold wall.

Don Quixote is also progressing well.

The sheep are doing well.

Even when the wolf shows up with Batman tilt.

Saint George and the Dragon is also going well.

But, out 10 year old troupe has been doing that one for 11 years, so that should go well.
The sword stuff is going well too.

And I’m doing sickle with two different people.

Date: 2012-06-11 01:47 am (UTC)A couple weeks ago, I did this with a printed circuit board which I had spent hours carefully modifying with many tiny wires soldered on. Fortunately, it was in a bubble-wrap envelope and a "pizza box". The box flew up end over end, as I gasped in horror, watching it in the rear view mirror. The bubble bag came flying out and landed in the middle of the road. Fortunately, it was after closing time at the plant and there was virtually no traffic on the road at the time as I ran back. It even still worked! Whew!
