Ren center Faire
May. 7th, 2012 08:47 amYesterday
Ren Center for their annual Ren Faire.
It is a very small faire. The college acting department does some
Shakespeare, they have some musicians, some singers and us.
We did two scheduled shows, but pretty much all day someone was coming by
and asking us questions that were easiest to answer by demonstration.
So, even with only two scheduled shows we did a lot of sword fighting.
At one point I was tired enough that I went and sat in the audience in an
empty chair. The woman who happened to be next to me said “good, now you
can get us detailed narration on what is going on.” It turned out she was
an ER nurse who was very interested in knife wounds, how they happen and
how they can be prevented. (Makes me worry about that ER…)
We ended up having her come up for a lesson on how to do some of the dagger
moves. Her husband refused to try it with her, so her son did instead. He
claimed that letting his mother learn how to dagger fight with him got him
off the hook for a mother’s day present next week.
There was a young boy, probably 5 or 6, who wouldn’t leave our area. Every
time his father tried to take him to another part of the field, he came
running back a few minutes later.
Over all the crowd was much bigger this year. I’d say double the size of
last year. And, a lot more young kids.
During the day
some demos and joined in on our second show.
Jeff Lord showed up towards the end and joined us as we went out to dinner.
The show ended at 4, so the BBQ place we went wasn’t too crowded.
We got home at 7:30 and I was very tired. (Hence no pictures.)
It is a good little show. As it is on a college campus, you get people who
are very interested in this historical information as well as just watching
the sword fights. I like that a lot more than the shows where they’re
shouting for blood.
