I did my first bike ride of the year today after work. It is the shortest of the routes I came up with last fall at only 1 3/4 miles. And, I only went around once.
It makes me remember I'm 44 not 14. But, it's a good tired, right?
At least I was able to carry the bike up the stairs at the end.

What type of bicycle do you have ? Is it a mountain bike, or cross-over, or ?
Are there any good rides on less traveled roads or gravel roads around the Q-reservoir ?

It is usually good to take a few short rides to start the season off anyway, as you don't want to be far from home when you realize that something (on the bike, or on you) broke, stretched, bent, or went flat as a result of the winter layover... That is my philosophy and I am sticking to it !
After another shorter ride or two to get the kinks out you can start working on that century-ride..

I did check the tires before setting out. I've got a pump, so it isn't too much of a problem.
My favorite route is about 4 miles and (when up for it) I try and go around more than once. But, I think that's going to take a bit to get back into.

I don't like the idea of driving somewhere to ride a bike. It just seems wrong. Maybe it's me.
But I remember when working in Worcester I used to ride the bike back and forth to work. Sometimes more than once a day due to classes. It just doesn't seem right to drive one around.

Of course, you live at the top of a hill, which makes starting easy and ending hard ;)

Actually, since I have to go uphill to get out of the parking lot, and those hills are pretty steep, it's usually easier at the end than at the start. (At least the way I go. And, yes, I picked that way on purpose.)

If you feel up to it later this spring, check out some of the rides/routes on pedaling.com for the central MA area and I'll come down and ride with you.
A number of these rides may be longer than what you are used to, but I am sure that you can work up to it, or we can do what you feel like trying. Many may involve some driving to get to a spot to start/end the ride, but if the route is nice, scenic, and without alot of heavy traffic/trucks that is worth it, in my opinion. Maybe we could find a good route around the Wachusett reservoir, or something..

There is one that goes through my home town on that site.
It's 21 miles long, and I know the hills it talks about...
So, maybe after some time this summer I'd be up for that. But, not after a winter of sitting around.
I'm sure I could find as good a route myself. After all, the bike shop they list for that route is 30 miles away. So, I don't think the folks who post it know the area well.
My bike does have off road tires and front shocks. It's not really an off road bike, but can do some of it. And, give it a break, it has to hold me up....
