It could be worse
Feb. 28th, 2012 02:08 pmI’m worried about the show this weekend because we have so few people
going. So, I tried to write up the “adventure” in Ohio 9 years ago to
remind myself that this year’s GCRF just cannot be that bad.
At three pages I wasn’t even up to noon on the first day.
The upshot is:
It took us 6 hours longer than expected to get there.
Ravenna Ohio is cursed by my wife for blocking the exit to where we
expected to have dinner.
The faire organizer was the biggest dick we’ve worked for. (But, not
encountered.)
A hose over the top of a box is not a modern shower.
An outhouse over a stream is not a modern toilet.
An old skeet range is not a good camping area.
A hundred people over two days is not a “massive turnout”. (I know this
from our own faire.)
Providing imitation pop tarts and Wendy’s chili does not meet your feeding
your cast well.
Giving away pickles as a game prize does not ruin your pickle business.
Prizes that are a small French fry from a McDonald’s 20 miles away are not
a good prizes.
Entertainment acts should not be told it is their job to run off unhappy
customers
If 2 out of 5 of your vendors are wanted by the law, you’ve got a problem
when you call the police.
Don’t say you want a very moral faire and then hit on some of the
performers.
Don’t berate other troupe members for not wearing gloves when in front of
an audience.
It can rain very hard in Ohio.
If your entertainers want to go to a hotel, in the middle of a downpour,
after the show is over, don’t insult them over this choice.
Don’t try and misremember how much we were going to get paid when I have
your offer with me.
Geese sometimes don’t know when to get out of the road.
If I had left gun girl on the side of the NY thruway she never would have
tried to bring that gun on the plane 5 months later. (I remember the exact
spot I thought “maybe I should just pull over and make her get out”.)
Don’t use our images without our permission.
Don’t use our group in your faire ads until you actually get us on contract
to be there.
Trying to short change us for a second year means 9 years later I’ll still
use you as a bad example.
