How do you get Phoenix Swords on stage?
Oct. 1st, 2011 08:34 pmToday we performed at the Autumn in the Park Art festival in Stafford Springs CT.
Although a bit of a damp day, they still decided to go on with the show.
We didn’t go on until 2 and the show didn’t start until noon, so we slept late and drove the 45 or so minutes there.

It wasn’t a big faire, but it was in a nice park.

We weren’t the only ones who showed up early.

The park is right next to a river, which is very nice.

It is also just down the road from a NASCAR track, which made it very noisy. Not so bad for us, but it was a real problem for the barbershop quartet that followed us.
I went off to an ATM machine so I could buy a sandwich for lunch. When I got back I found the Irish musician had recruited most of our group to help out on stage.

They also led in some dancing, even if it looked like Devon made the little girl there afraid.

But, that’s our group for you. Even hint they might be welcome to be in front of the audience instead of in it and you’re likely to get a stage full.
I’m not a dancer, so I looked around at the other things there.
I thought this was very interesting.

I thought that the miniature donkeys must be VERY small as I couldn’t see them at all.

But, I couldn’t think too much about that as it was soon our time to go on.

We had Casey with us, which is always an “interesting” experience.
At one point he said “I’m done with this juggling stick” and tossed it at Sue to put it out.
Good thing she has good reflexes and is pretty calm.
I wish he’d give a bit more warning about that stuff before he does it.

The rest of our show went pretty well.

It was pretty damp, which makes things burn in ways not as good for us.
But, we adapt and are always happy about it, right?

The fire swords were particularly difficult to get to burn correctly.

But, we managed.
Since our show had to be double our normal length, we had Casey do a lot more than normal.

I don’t remember seeing him do this trick since he tried it with a hula hoop and it melted on him.

But, he does seem to have the hang of it.

Well, almost.

But, don’t worry, he’s OK!

Then, we finished with a trick I never expected to see.
The last time I saw Casey do the fire ball was back in August of 2002, when he blew himself up.
I never expected him to do it again.
But, there he was saying “I’m ready”.
Rule 7 is clear it is up to him to say no, so on he went.

After the show we wandered around a bit more.
It turned out the miniature donkeys aren’t too small to see, they just weren’t in their pen.

It was a nice enough time. I don’t mind a show where I can sleep late, do a extra long show and still be home before 5.
