Ren Center banquet
May. 1st, 2011 02:53 amAfter lunch in Newburyport, we set off for the other end of the state. There are times I’m glad I live in a small state, and this was one of them.
But, it is a very nice drive and the weather got better and better as we drove.

Some of the views along route 2 are spectacular.

But, I was sad to see route 2 was closed.

The detour wasn’t too bad.

Soon (2 hours later) we were there.

There was a slight rain on the coast, but out here it was perfect.

The director knew he knew me from somewhere (like the sword symposium last week) but wasn’t quite sure where. He asked if I was one of the caterers and I said “no, sword fighter.” I was told that was marvelous.

We did change into out costume for the banquet. He said to me after I changed “Those clothes fit you like they were made for you!”
“That’s because they were,” I said.
“That would explain it,” he agreed. (The center had some costumes on loan for people who wanted to use them. I think we were the only folks who brought out own.)
As dinner started a very good quartet was playing.

They seemed surprised people applauded them and not quite sure what to do about it. When my wife asked what the name of their group was the leader said “Name? We’re just some people who get together and play these things. Usually in my living room.”
So, probably not too much applause there.
The director, who had also added some costuming, started us off.

I guess if you donate enough to the ren center you get to sit at the head table with a crown. I’ll keep that in mind if I ever win the lottery jackpot.

The lute player was very good. I found it funny he knew right where to start playing.

The food was all from recipes from 400 or so years ago and very good.

Chive flowers are much more powerful then I expected.
The lute player did come by and play for the rest of us, not just the head table. It was a very nice dinner, with nice music, at sunset, at a nice location.

My wife agreed it was very romantic.

After dinner they put on the play of “The Gravedigger’s Gift”.

It is a nice play and was very well performed.
All in all, a very good time. I’m glad we came out for it!
