I had several dreams or one sort of extended dream last night. The setting of all of them was the same, but different events seemed to be going on. I woke up between each “phase” so I know it wasn’t really one big dream. But, it is very rare for me to continue in a setting like that.
I dreamed I was in some sort of restaurant with all of the relatives on my mother’s side. We were seated around a long rectangular table and there was a Christmas tree that took up the entire length.
For some reason all of us decided to take a branch and start to pull on it. It seemed this was some sort of ritual we all knew, but when awake I don’t.
As we did this, I saw my mother’s father sitting behind her. As he’s been dead for 35 years this was somewhat surprising. He was sitting in the same old green armchair that I later inherited for my college apartment and saw him in then as well.
My mother was seated across from me. I asked her if she could see him too.
“Yes, I see him,” she said and I realized she was crying as she said it.
My grandfather stood up and walked to the table. He looked at me and motioned me to come towards him with his right hand.
I stood up and reached my left hand out to him.
He grabbed my hand and tried to pull me over the table.
We struggled for a short time, then I broke his grip and pulled my hand back.
I woke up and looked at the clock. It was 12:59 and clicked over the 1:00 as I watched. As we are in daylight savings time, that means it was really just midnight.
Having that dream of my grandfather’s ghost just at midnight seemed very significant to me at the time and it took me a while to get back to sleep.
Next, I was in the same restaurant with the same long table. Instead of a Christmas tree the table held the large assembly I’ve been working on at work this week. I was trying to get it running when some other people came in.
They couldn’t find their way to the subway station and needed me to come and show them.
I left with them and found that we were in Boston near the old Boston Garden before they built the new sports arena there. The “subway” was elevated there and was right over the heads of the people who couldn’t find it.
Finally, I had made dinner reservations for two large groups of people. Each were putting on a show of the Rocky Horror Picture Show that were playing in theaters across the street from each other. I was not in either production, but had to have this combined dinner with both casts so they could get together and deicide which production was best.
We went to the same restaurant as the other “phases” and I had reserved the same room for us. The room was half a flight of stairs down from street level and the head of the restaurant led us in.
In the room was a middle aged woman eating a big plate of spaghetti.
“I thought I reserved the whole room,” I said to the guy leading us in.
“You did, Sir,” he said. “But, it is her birthday and we had no other tables. I did not want to send her away.”
Both casts were in costume, very loud and very competitive. It did not take long for this woman to complain as well.
“But, I told you the room was reserved for another group,” the man told her. “You said you did not mind.”
Dream ends
The first part of the dream did bother me a lot. My grandmother (wife of the ghost in the dream) used to have dreams that predicted her sibling’s deaths. She described them as being in a room together and a hooded figure of death would point at one. I was old enough to remember her having the dream about the last three of her siblings and all three dying a week or less later. Only one of those three was in the hospital and not expected to make it at the time.
Of course, since my grandfather pointed at me, and this dream reminded me of my grandmother’s dreams, it worried me a lot.

Date: 2011-04-19 04:10 am (UTC)Saturday night I also had a very odd dream unlike any I've ever had before - I got a job designing a system for the worlds richest man - he was so rich, he had developed, among other things, anti-gravity drive. I was on his luxury yacht - actually more like a cruise ship, sailing around a huge lake in the middle of his island. The island, of course, floated around the world at an elevation of just 1000 feet above the ground at the speed of the earth's rotation. IT was all very odd, but very entertaining.
I am positive that your dream is your subconscous working on more cleaning out of the various closets and storage bins of your life and life's relationships. Unfortunately, I'm battling some sort of cold and am too stuffy to have my brain function in dream analysis mode at the moment.
