I finished my taxes last night. 76 days early, but why wait to get money
back?
Even with Phoenix making money (for once) I still am getting a refund.
With all of the deductions I took, Phoenix still made about $500. I
probably could have wrung that much out of it. (The Christmas party alone,
which TurboTax thinks is deductible, would have done most of that.) But,
it still thinks I have a pretty low chance of audit. Squeezing every penny
out of it might get me a few bucks more of a refund, but cost a lot more in
an audit. I'm OK with that.
(I should also point out that one anniversary party in August made the
difference. Go happy couple!)
But:
I think my cold is back. I can tell when people in other departments down
the hall from where I sit call me to ask if I need cough drops….
And, one of my projects blew up today.
It has never worked the way I wanted. I think it is because they had me
copy someone else's design instead of doing my own. That's almost
certainly a total vanity. We’d probably still have problems, just
different problems.
Monday someone complained about a problem with it. My boss and I figured
out a way to make it work by adding another part. Granted, an expensive
part. But, it made the customer happy, could be retro fit in the field,
and we had all of the parts in stock.
Today our wonderful COO sent an email out to the executive board saying it
"has been a complete nightmare" and going on about the expense of our
solution. The only good in it is that he did have the courtesy to copy me.
And, my boss did chime in saying we’ve been selling these for a year and no
one else complained so it can't be that bad.
But, it still makes for a nasty day.

Yeah, well at least the CEO is screaming about it now...
Wait, that isn't good...

At least you aren't looking out your window thinking "Yellow...".

Actually, I did spend a lot of the day looking out the window.
I didn't see anything yellow. Nor did I come up with a good solution.
But, I spent the last hour of the day with a bunch of other people trying to come up with something.
None of them came up with anything I hadn't. None of them came up with anything that works with the constraints I have.
So, I don't feel so stupid now.
CEO is still mad about it, but at least the people saying "how could you get something so simple wrong?" have shut up.
