What’s all this then?
Oct. 14th, 2010 09:14 amLast night my wife and I went off to the Whole Foods in Framingham to do
our shopping.
Yes, there are three, soon to be four, big supermarkets in town with us.
We passed 3 others getting there. But, I find the chain stores in the area
pretty bland. So, if we want something special it’s drive 4 towns over to
the Whole Foods.
(It doesn’t hurt that there is an Indian restaurant we like within site of
the WF. And, you shouldn’t shop hungry, so it made sense to stop first.
Right?)
When we got home, the parking lot was full with several utility trucks and
a fire truck all parked in front of our building. The parking lot was wet
with what looked like big tracks of water coming from our building.
We headed to our building with our groceries and the doors were propped
open and I couldn’t see anyone inside. But, our light appeared to be on
upstairs. Still I was a bit worried about going in if there was something
going on.
I lingered by the front door a bit and saw a Shrewsbury power company
person, a Shrewsbury fire department person and someone wearing a hat with
the name of the people who own our building walking by.
“Excuse me, can you tell me what’s going on?” I asked.
“Water main broke,” the power person told me. “Flooded the next building,
and yours was down hill.”
“We had to shut off all of your power and water,” the guy from the building
owners said.
“Their water and power isn’t off,” the fire department person said. (And
he was clearly right as we were all standing under the entrance light that
was undeniably on.)
“Yes it is,” the guy said. “I shut it off for the whole building.”
“You shut it off for buildings F and G,” the fire guy said. “This is
building H we’re in front of.”
“So, the water will be off in my master bathroom that gets its water from
building G?” I asked.
“No,” the apartment guy said. “It’s all off.”
“You’ll be fine,” the fire guy said.
We had power. Water in the main bath, but not the master.
So, fire guy wins.
I guess that’s the better way. But, it does make me wonder about the folks
who own the place. Granted in the 17 years we’ve lived there, this is the
first time I’ve met anyone from the actual owning company instead of the
agents they hire to manage the place.
But, they clearly don’t have a good feel for what they own.

Date: 2010-10-19 10:06 pm (UTC)I'm looking forward to the new Price Chopper, and EAGERLY anticipating the upcoming Wegman's! (Fall of 2011, alas.) Both will also lower S&S prices, since they've been charging a premium for having a monopoly along Rt. 9; The Westboro prices are substantially higher than the Shrewsbury ones, for instance.

Date: 2010-10-20 11:31 am (UTC)It is right on route 9 East just as you go around the curve by Framingham State.
You can see the light where Whole Foods is from there.
It is small, but we like it.
