fbhjr: (Lost Bear)
[personal profile] fbhjr

While my wife and I were at the beach last summer, we saw this little lost
bear in the sand.
It made me very sad. Some child had lost this little bear and was probably
upset and sad.
I wished I could return it to the child who had lost it. But, the beach
does not have a lost and found. So, I ended up leaving it where it was so
that if the people who lost it returned to look, it would be where they
lost it.
But, I felt bad doing so. That there should have been something more I
could do to reunite the owner with the toy.
I think I watched too much Rudolph as a kid. I identify too much with the
residents of the Island of Misfit Toys.
But, that is how I’ve felt a lot lately. Thrown aside. Left in the sand.
Convinced it’s a mistake but worried I was left behind on purpose. Worried
that even if recovered will now be viewed as dirty or unclean because of my
time in the sand.
I hope the little bear got home.

I would have built him a sandcastle to live in for his stay on the beach...

It was very late in the day. (You can probably tell be the shadow.)
And, I was with other people who wanted to leave. (The time it took me to stop and take the picture got me a "come one we're going".)
If I had more time, that would have been good.

Maybe little bear is not lost and forgotten. Maybe he ran away, maybe its better alone on the beach, he could find another friend, or his old one maybe just around the corner. Hopefully he is happy.
