A fulcrum and a place to stand

The replacement camera kit for me is shipping out today.
I am noting this as on the phone the other day I was told there was “no way possible to make it ship before May 17th.”
No reason was give for the 3 week speed up of my replacement, but I’m pretty sure I know why.
Monday, when they told me I had to wait, I drove over to the local Apple store. I bought a case for my incoming iPad, a computer game, and a couple of small add on parts. The total of all of that wasn’t very high, and almost insignificant next to the outstanding orders I’ve placed in the last month.
But, I got one of the things I hoped for: one of those “tell us how we’re doing” surveys about my shopping experience.
When I filled it out last night I talked about how nice the people at the Apple store were, and how they had tried to help me, but it was out of their hands. I added that I was disappointed that after buying two iPads and a new computer from them, I couldn’t load photos because a $29 part got lost by their shipping agent.
All of this was on a “third party research group” questionnaire.
Today my part ships.
It is amazing how well those little surveys work. And, how often they’re given out to me.
Last year when I couldn’t get good service at a Best Buy, I bought what I wanted at a different branch. I was given a survey and put in I had wanted to buy it at the first store, but couldn’t get a sales person to help me.
The manager of the store I had initially tried, not the one that gave me the survey, called me two days later offering to personally assist my shopping anytime I wanted to come back and give his store another try.
This is also why when sending in complaints about bad service, I like to do it over email and not the phone. It leaves a written trail of exactly what I said, and it is easy to forward on to the next level if needed.
I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that when I fill out their demographic information that I get to say “prime target audience” for a lot of it. (White, male, mid-40’s, good income.)
But, whatever the reason, I’m glad they are shipping it soon.
