I was working with the Ghostbusters. We were in some sort of institutional building. I don’t know if it was a school, hospital, army base or something else. But, it had that painted cinder block wall, tiled floor look that all of those places have.
We had barricaded the building and it was surrounded by the armed forces who were going to destroy it due to what we were dealing with on the inside. We were trying to come up with something to solve the problem first.
And, since they wouldn’t let us out, we wanted some way to escape ourselves.
Whatever it was we were dealing with was turning people into little toy soldiers. Once turned into one, the person would run through a “program” of what that person would do in the near future. It would repeat over and over, but would change if you did something that would change what was going to happen.
In one of the labs, something came up behind one of the people who worked there. I don’t know what they did there, but they worked in a lab coat. The creature was a blobby looking thing that looked almost like a person with no arms past the elbow or legs past the knee. Other than their shape they didn’t look human as they looked like they were made up of bubbly grape jello.
It jumped on the person and flowed over him. He struggled a lot and got smaller and smaller. When it was done he wasn’t a guy in a lab coat, he was a toy soldier in uniform with an assault rifle.
The creature crept away as I came down the hall. I looked in the window and saw what was left of the guy on the floor. I went over and picked him up. The assault rifle he carried had a bayonet on the end and it stuck into my finger.
I brought it up to the main room where most of the people were gathered.
Egan was looking at a bunch of the little figures on a table.
“I think they’re going to attack soon,” I told him. “They’ve already fixed bayonets on their rifles.”
I pulled the figure out of my finger and put it down on the table with the others.
“Something’s changed with what they’re doing,” Egan told me, pointing to the figures.
The figures stood in a group. Then, they all looked up in the same direction and started shooting.
“It’s not working!” one of them shouted in a tiny voice. “Pull back! Pull back!”
They scattered backwards leaving a big gap in the middle that they all kept shooting at. Whatever they were fighting was obviously there.
After a couple of seconds they reset and started the same loop over.
“It’s something they can’t stop,” Egan said to me.
“We can be hard to stop,” I said, looking at him.
He looked at me and I could tell we were finishing the sentence the same way in our minds “depending on what we let loose on them…”
Dream ends

I can see where the elements of this one came from.
I watched some of “Night at the Museum” the other day. It has little diorama people coming to life. (Although these didn’t get the free will the ones in the movie did.)
Playing WOW my wife and I have been going after a lot of undead lately. And, the monster that did this looked a bit like one of the Northrend undead. (Sort of like the geists in Zul’Drak.)
Last week I watched “As Good As it Gets”. That has the same actor who played Egan in Ghostbusters. And, in the dream he was the only one of the Ghostbusters I actually saw.
So, that’s the elements. I can’t say why they came together that way.

I can see why it came together, looking at your previous work post.

little creatures attacking and not much coming of it = egos and trying to hack out ideas that work under pressure

getting bayonetted in the finger = the possibility of freezer-robot attacks.
