Today I met up with my cousin again and gave her a ride from where she had been for the weekend to where she’ll be for the next few days. Some of our route followed the path of Paul Revere.

But, he was captured by the British and we got through.

The Concord area is very nice. A lot of it is a national park and persevered, so has not been built up like so much of the Boston area.

Normally this time of year raspberries and blackberries are ripe. We couldn’t find any of these. The berries we did find neither of us were willing to try in the hopes they were edible.

Just outside of the center of town is the site of the “battle of Concord” and the “shot heard round the world”.

The rebuilt bridge where the battle took place was open, even though the main road next to it was closed.

We’ve had much more rain then normal the last couple of months. So, the river is well above normal.

Folks with canoes and kaiaks seemed to enjoy this.

I was disappointed to see a lot of trash floating down the river.

Back in the 70’s and 80’s when the whole Bicentennial was going on I was part of a reenactment group of a colonial color guard. I marched in a lot of parades in this park, over that bridge and through the town. But, it was always very crowded when I was there and full of people in revolutionary era costumes.
Just as I pointed out the lack of this to my cousin, one showed up.

He spent some time talking with the intern ranger there at the bridge and seemed to think someone had called for him. I doubt she heard what I had said to my cousin. So, he was a bored red coat.

There was another group being led by someone who’s costume consisted of a three cornered hat.

That might not have been very historic, but the guy in a park service shirt riding a mower was even less so.

We did see a large heron swoop over the water and land in a tree.

(He’s sitting on the top where the tree turns left.)

So, despite litter in the water, the birds seem to be doing OK.
I dropped my cousin off at her new hotel and drove home to deal with various repair people, all of whom were very efficient.

I did see one very strange thing when picking up my cousin at the hotel.

It’s one of those things that makes me think there is a story attached. But, I don’t know it.
