Ben Hur in Shrewsbury?
May. 22nd, 2009 08:41 pmIt was a bright sunny day so I set off for the bank.

When I say sunny, I mean really sunny. And, hot (91F) but with a strong wind so as long as you were in the wind it didn’t seem too bad.

On the way home I passed the site of Shrewsbury’s domestic terrorism.*

I noticed the road construction appeared to be adding spikes to the road.

This was very strange. People in town already drive horribly, run lights, turn when they shouldn’t, don’t use signals, etc.
So, why would they add spikes?
Then, I realized, it must be like the chariot race in Ben Hur. The drivers in town are accidently this bad, they are actually training for soon to come gladiatorial combat on the roads of Shrewsbury!
Just as I came to this conclusion, it began. A van stopped, the car behind it crashed into it.

Another van stopped to ask the first van if it was OK. Enraged cars started honking and yelling about the road being blocked. (Strange with 2 lanes each way and only 1 blocked. But, I didn’t say they were smart... I kept walking.)
So, it appears the teams are cars vs vans.
Where does that put my station wagon?
It is very important I find out before the formal events begin.
* Yes, some news people really did report it as terrorism. Less excitable people might note that two teenage kids and a home made explosive might not really fit into that category. Even if it is under power lines that supply most of Worcester. That, I feel, had more to do with a place they thought they would not get caught then anything to do with the power.
But, it was just after 9/11 and folks seemed to be looking for reasons to throw around the T word...
