Good feeling
Oct. 18th, 2007 10:41 amYesterday I was called over to the new show room they’re building in our office.
“The new bracket you designed stinks and we want to show you why,” is what I was told when I was called over.
I took one look at it and said “they sent you the old bracket, not the new. That’s why it’s a problem. Get the new and try again.”
Today I was walking through the show room on an errand and the same installer came up to me.
“Thanks,” he said, shaking my hand. “We used the new bracket. It’s great and I wanted to thank you for coming up with it.”
I don’t get that often. Usually what they don’t like is very publicly criticized, but the good not brought up. It’s very nice to be thanked for coming up with something that makes peoples life easier. (It also makes it safer as it’s twice as strong as the old while being easier to install.)
Of course this is one of the parts I told the company we should patent and they said it wasn’t worth it. But, that’s another story. At least this way when other companies steal it, I will get to bask in the compliment of being imitated. Right? Right?

Date: 2007-10-18 09:08 pm (UTC)I know that is a daily (hourly?) occurance at my place, the Installers constantly critize us in the Plaque shop, but dare we even make a critical observation (installers mis-read the paperwork and screwed up and didn't own up, blame us; or damage a plaque and don't say anything/blame us), well how DARE we even say anything, The Installers are living Gods. And then there's the Fabrication/Fab Shop, who are of course perfect and everything they do is perfect...Except being able to cut a straght line or cut anything square.
but anyway, yeah, that's always good to hear a compliment on your work.
