To Florida and back
Dec. 27th, 2018 04:21 pmWe set out Saturday afternoon.

The Worcester airport is on the far side of the city, but no highway runs there. So, you’ve got to drive through the city.

It’s a nice view from the airport. You can see most of the city.

Our flight was supposed to be about sunset.

But, when the plane was supposed to arrive…

Not too much later, the plane arrived and we got on.

After about 45 minutes of the pilots telling us they couldn’t get something working, they told everyone to get off so they could shut down the plane and have it reset.

They explained it was the oxygen system for the pilots that wasn’t working. Everyone agreed that was a good thing to have working. So, we waited while the plane reset.

Time went by. The airline tried to keep me informed.

I’m not sure them saying "where there are jet blue points there is a way" is true as I have jet blue points, and had no way to get the plane working.

Eventually, after about 4 hours, they put out snacks for everyone.

More time went by…

I did get lots of "Worcester Airport" Packages in Pokemon Go.

About 5 hours after we should have taken off, we got back on the plane.

I feel bad for he airport people who thought they’d be able to go home by 5, but had to stay until 10.

But, off into the air we went.

About 1AM we got to Orlando.
After renting the car and such, we go to the hotel about 2AM.

Christmas day, we packed the things we got as presents in our suitcase and headed to the airport.

I was happy that our plane arrived on time.

We left on time too!

The airport folks seemed festive.

No idea what they’re building next to the airport.

Off we went back north.

We didn’t take the path we normally take.

This way we could see across all of Florida to the Gulf of Mexico!

We did finally turn a bit east.

Normally we cut across the ocean instead of following the coast. Not sure why we went a different way this time.

Eventually, Long Island New York came into view.

Then Connecticut.

My wife wanted this photo of how much the seat in front of her was pushed back.

Looking at our part of the country from the air, it is not at all hard to believe that glaciers once scraped the land here.

Then, back in Worcester.

We got a good look at where my wife works.

Then we landed on top of the hill.

We had an experience I never expected. We had to wait for another plane to land. I am not used to that much traffic at the airport.

You have to wait as you need the runway to get back to the terminal.

And, because they didn’t go down to the end to wait, they beat us to the terminal!

It was much colder at home.

At the Worcester airport, there isn’t much question about where to get your luggage.

It was just about sunset.

I think I could see the taller buildings in Boston all the way at the coast.

But, there was luggage to get.

The drive home was quick as few folks were on the road.
I’m glad the trip back was better than the trip down.
