Monday night the Hurstwic group had a special sneak preview of their new movie on "The Final Battle of Grettir the Strong".

They are a cool group and do very cool things. This "go to Iceland and film battles from the sagas where they actually happened" is one of the most cool things I know.
Their videos are great and very informative. I strongly recommend them if you are at all interested in that sort of thing.
My wife and I were invited to see it so went off and saw

It was in the Elm Draught House Cinema, which is cool too.

There was a description before the movie and questions and answers after.

It was great!
Tuesday there was a small snow storm.

It did make driving home a bit slow.

It turned to rain as I got home, coating everything in ice.

This made for a coat of ice on everything Wednesday morning.

It seems like some folks don’t know how to deal with hardened ice on their cars. I saw people scraping and scraping and scraping and not making a dent in the ice.
I used both sides of my scraper.

Score the ice.

Then scrape it away.

There was a truck that couldn’t drive in it either. They spun their wheels enough to get them smoking, but couldn’t get up the hill.

They dropped farther and farther back to try and get a running start, but never managed to get higher than where they started.
Once they backed past me, I pulled out and drove away. They looked mad.
But, slow and steady.

It wasn’t a fun drive.

And, it seemed like everyone reached the same light at the same time.

Thursday was when they were predicting the big snow.

So, I opted to work from home. As did everyone in my whole department. We still did our staff meetings over the phone and such, so I still got a lot of work done.
And, there was a good bit of snow.

Since I was home and it was cold on the porch, I decided to defrost the freezer. It had a LOT of ice built up.

The storm ended about sunset and we waited until after dinner to dig out our cars. It was a very fluffy snow, so it didn’t take long to clean off.

It wasn’t as deep here as other places.

Friday the turkeys were looking for food in the snow.

As the sun set and moon rose, we headed off to game night.

Our hosts made jambalaya. The meat was optional depending on people’s various needs and restrictions.

We started with Robot Rally.

The little robots move around and shoot each other.

Then, we moved over to Codenames.

The nice thing is there are two teams and as many people as you like can be on the teams.

How to give the clues can be hard.

When we left, the snow was falling again.

Because of the temperature it was very sparkly.

Today I got my car serviced, which meant walking off to the garage when it was ready. Looked like it had been a good bit of snow.

Expecting another big storm tomorrow.

I got my wife’s lunch at one place, and my across the street from there.

As we’re expecting another foot of snow tomorrow, we’ve pre-cancelled sword practice. That’s sad as we really need practice. But, not people killing themselves to get there.

Date: 2017-02-12 12:30 pm (UTC)"If you can drive in this, the rest of the year won't be a problem" is what he said.
He was right about that. I wish the other folks around had similar experience.

hahaha you always make me laugh when you post pics if the turkey's in between. Somehow you always manage to encounter them don't you?

Date: 2017-02-12 09:04 pm (UTC)Lots of cars crash and go off the road.
Sometimes there is nothing you can do. I once hit an ice patch and totally lost control. I was only going about 10km/hr, but still damaged my wheel when I hit the curb.
I like my little car. It gets very good fuel economy.
