It is 52 days, 12 hours, 1 minute and 50.13 seconds until we leave for our trip to Australia. (As I write this, based on schedule plane take off time…)

Being the kind of people that plan things out for what we’re going to do on vacation, I have been pre-buying tickets to some of the things we want to see.

This actually started in May when we first booked the trip.

One of the places that has been recommended by several people is the Healesville Animal Sanctuary.
And, once on their web page I couldn’t help but see the Wombat Pat and Play:
http://www.zoo.org.au/healesville/wild-encounters/wombat-pat-and-play

Did you follow that link? How could you not want to pat that wombat?

Anyhow, I wrote to them and said “I’d like to reserve two places in the Pat the Wombat program on 28 December.”

Time passed.

In July I wrote again.

I got back an answer that basically said they don’t expect people to book these things 6 or more months in advance. They expect people to sign up while they are there.
I pointed out that I did not want to travel 16,825.71km (yeah, I measured) to miss my place in line because it is the week of Christmas and they might well be busy.
They agreed with the validity of that point, but were still clear that they just weren’t set up for tickets that far in advance. They strongly suggested I wait to follow up until less than 2 months from when we were going to be there.

Last Friday, 2 months from when we are going to be there, I dropped them another line.
Time passed.
Monday I dropped them another.

They replied and we exchanged times, dates and credit card numbers.

Now, we have our wombat tickets!
Yay!
I am looking forward to patting the Wombat at 2:05PM local time 28, December!
(54 days, 14 hours, 4 minutes, 7.10 seconds if I’ve got the time zone right…)

I loved Healesville Sanctuary when I visited a few years ago. I think you'll love Healesville too, it's beautiful. Lots of trees!

Wombats are adorable!

Wombat time looks fun.

Someday I hope to pet a Beluga whale or a seal. I enjoy petting rays.

They have a beluga program down in Mystic. You feed them. You can probably touch them doing that...

There is Cuddle a Wallaby in Colorado Springs. That's the only reason to go to Colorado Springs.

I bet they're going to know who you are when you get there, and you might get special attention! :)
