Franks don’t dance
May. 21st, 2016 08:47 pmI’ve always liked the "Where the Heck is Matt" videos:
http://www.wheretheheckismatt.com
I’ve contributed to them several times over the years and always enjoy watching them.
I had long ago put myself on the list of "If you’re ever going to shoot a video in my area, let me know".
Today he came to Boston to shoot a new video.
I have a bad history with dancing (http://fbhjr.livejournal.com/432948.html ) and generally don’t.
But, I do occasionally made exceptions. (http://fbhjr.livejournal.com/219699.html )
And, I decided this should be one of those exceptions.
It wasn’t until 3 in the afternoon, so we had a nice lunch before heading out.

Then, into Boston we went.

Traffic was quite bad for a Saturday. I suspect a Red Sox game.
It also was fairly cloudy, but at least it wasn’t raining.

We parked in the harbor hotel. Very tight spacing.

It was happening at the "Rose Kennedy park" which follows the old route of the high way through the city. When I was a kid there was an elevated road there. But, they put the road underground and made a park out of it.

They’ve got interesting things there.

The roads and parks might have changed, but the customs tower has been there for a century or so.

The fountain where it was going to happen has sculptures of the Chinese zodiac around it.

That’s fairly cool.

Right on time he got there to get started.

For someone who travels the world filming dancing videos, he travels light. He had a backpack and a bottle of water.

But, he had arranged for someone to be there with a tripod and a ladder as well.
There was a big question of who wanted to dance in the water and who wanted to stay dry.

The video was shot on his iPhone.

(My video, below, was shot with our camera…)
Those of us staying dry walked around the fountain.

Matt was giving directions from just inside the fountain and found he was standing over one of those water jets…

Video my wife shot of it. There were 2 takes...
The sirens you hear on the video are the fire department showing up. Someone threw a cigarette in the mulch and they had to come put it out.
My wife and I had smelled the smoke as it was near where we had been waiting. But, we didn't realize it was a fire, we just thought one of the food trucks around was making the smoke.
After the dancing was over he sold magnets and stickers to fund the trip. He signed them and was willing to take photos with folks too.

I bought a magnet and had my photo taken.

Then, back to the car parked at the harbor side hotel.

And, out of Boston.

Given how many folks were crossing the bridge to the ball park, I’m pretty sure there was a sox game…

It was cool to be part of it.
I’m glad I went.

Date: 2016-05-22 01:41 pm (UTC)I think I had come up out of the tunnel on my way to the North End around 4:20 or so, I was probably about 20 feet away, although in my car at the time.
Yes, there was indeed a Sox game going on. Traffic was particularly bad. Because whenever I work in Boston it tends to be on Sundays,
I tend to forget how awful the traffic (but thankfully moving) and parking is, especially in the North End, but I was able to find a spot.
Glad you got a chance to participate in this, that is really cool.
On my drive back home around 9-ish, I came across one of the Classical stations and the BSO had a Star Wars concert with John Williams going on, so
I had thought you were maybe trying to do both….But the timing sounded really tricky. I have to say it was fun driving back home at night with
Star Wars music.

Date: 2016-05-22 01:45 pm (UTC)We had the Worcester FD show up at 2:58AM for some reason, although without the sirens. The diesel engine woke us up, as well as the Door buzzer. "Usually" that means the FD wants us to move cars to do their job….Turns out it was a drunk couple who'd recently moved in who wanted to get in. Grrrr.
