Strange things

This is just a few random strange things that have happened over the last
few weeks that didn’t make it into any other entry, but I don’t want to
forget.
When we were in Florida last month, we ate breakfast at the hotel each
morning.
The first morning we were asked if we wanted tea. My wife asked for Earl
Grey. I asked for English Breakfast tea.
We were each brought a pot of tea.
I poured the one in front of me into my cup without looking at the tag on
it.
“This is her Earl Grey,” I said as it poured into the cup. “They switched
the pots by accident.”
I checked, and it was true.
I have no idea when I became able to tell Earl Grey from English Breakfast
by having it poured in front of me.
I’m not sure it is at talent I need or want.
Also in Florida, when we were in line to get on the giant Ferris Wheel I
felt someone reach into my back pocket.
I turned around at there was a young boy there. I’d guess 5 or 6 years
old. He had his hand in my pocket.
When he saw me turn, he reached out and took my hand.
“You should hold your father’s hand,” I said, passing his hand to the man
next to him who was staring up at the Ferris Wheel.
They ended up in the same pod on the wheel with us. Neither one said a
single thing the whole time from line to around the wheel to the gift shop.
Not to me, not to each other.
Maybe I’ve read too much Dickens, but I checked my wallet to make sure
everything was there. It was.
The Monday after we got back I was driving off to get some stuff and was
thinking of Billy Idol.
“That’s the first time I’ve heard him on the radio in ages,” I said to
myself.
I went to listen to it on my iPhone and found it had dropped off. So, I
reloaded some.
The problem was, I couldn’t remember when I heard it on the radio. And, I
hadn’t been listening to the radio at the time.
Yesterday when I went back to work, I started the car. When it hasn’t been
used in a while, my car forgets my iPhone is there and defaults to the
radio.
The Billy Idol song I had been thinking about was just starting on the
classic music station.
So, as far as I can tell, I had the nostalgia about the song a week before
I heard it on the radio for the first time in years.
