Getting ready Monday morning to head home, I found my new sneakers broke. This did not make me happy…

We got this green back from Aer Lingus on our honeymoon 19 years ago. I thought it a cheap bag then. But, it has held up…

We started our trip home just after dawn.

Back up to the highways north.

For the start, it was still very warm.

For the most part, the drive home was uneventful. But, over that distance there is always something.

Atlanta was much less cloudy than when I had been there the Monday before.

But, north of Atlanta, bad traffic again.

Still warm in South Carolina.

When we came out of the rest area building a man came up to us and told us how he used to work off the coast of Massachusetts as a tuna fisherman. We think he saw our Mass license plate and stopped to chat.

We passed the Peachoid before sunset.

The sun went down when we were in North Carolina.

In Virginia, an hour lost to bad traffic in a construction zone.

What annoyed me most was there were "express lanes" they could have opened to let folks go around, but they didn’t. That seems like they want to stop drivers for an hour…

But, we got past and through Maryland.

We were back in New England when the sun began to rise. It was also below freezing.

We just beat morning rush through Hartford after dropping off Bucket Head.

So, traffic wasn’t bad once we were past it.

Sadly, it was still school bus time when we got back to Shrewsbury.

I think it is wasteful to have them stop at every other house.

But, we got home!

We took a 5 hour nap, then got back in the car.

We went to storage and unloaded the car.

The swords and fire stuff can stay there for a couple of months…

We got some food, headed home and had no trouble sleeping.
Good to be home!

That's a long, long drive to do without a break. Great pictures, though.

I love that you have the energy to still take pics after being on the road for so long:)

Good on ya! I'll be making the drive from Savannah, starting early Saturday afternoon...or that's my present plan. I'm *so* not looking forward to it. *sigh*

It was there before, but they moved it closer to the front.

Aer Lingus…Lingers!

Yay! Glad you all got home OK.

I agree with VA traffic, it's like they want you to be pissed off and delayed for hours. I don't get it. From what little I know, the express lanes were very expensive (no duh) to construct, and they have a very complicated toll "system" in place…But that's still no excuse. But hey, at least they didn't shut down the road for 3 hours to hang those road signs..?

I also agree with the frustration and annoyance of having buses stop at every or every other house to pick up kids. But apparently parents complained most routes were too dangerous for their kids as there's not a lot of sidewalks anymore and apparently lawns are verboten to walk across (never mind that 3 feet border at the front of a property on the street end is actually town or city property).

Could be worse, you could have 50 [luxury] cars lined up along a narrow road so their kids can wait in the warm & dry car for the bus to show up, and then have that mad-scramble with all of those cars pulling out in front of each other all at once.

*sigh*

It is long for folks in the US too.
Few folks do it, but some do.

Wow. Long horrible drive. sorry about the shoe.

I don't understand that either. When I rode the bus we had designated bus stops where all the kids gathered (and approaching them was anxiety inducing). When my kids rode the bus they stopped at our house and every other house on the street. *shrug*
