This week we decided to practice some of our fire tricks.

Mostly because we are going to perform some at game night this week.
So, my wife started eating fire again.

But, at least she didn’t set her tongue on fire like

Lots of other fire was done too.

We even let the new people hold the burning fire sticks.

And, of course, Tom:

We did do sword stuff too.

We had some help putting Jose in the bag from his son.

People were very impressed.

On the way home we thought the view across the valley were we lived was very nice.

And, when we reached the other side and looked back, also thought it was nice.

Date: 2014-08-04 02:17 pm (UTC)As in swash-bucklers.
They were a type of small shield very popular in the 1300's. Chaucer talks about them in the Canterbury Tales.
The sequence they are doing in the photo comes from a book on sword fighting written in the first half of the 1300's probably at a cathedral school. It shows priests, monks and nuns sword fighting and is the oldest European book we have giving instructions on sword fighting. It is my wife's personal favorite.

Date: 2014-08-04 03:38 pm (UTC)You can see a plain one in the upper left photo here:

(It was remarkably difficult to find a photo of one. My wife usually does this technique and does not like photos of herself. And, since she does our web site, photos of her doing this tend to be far away where you can't make it out....)
