This is from our old apartment. I don’t remember if this is the party where we had to fix the toilet with balloons and super glue or another party.

This is from a Halloween party in 1993 or 1994. We still use that mask in some of our Phoenix shows.

This is from my wife’s birthday party in 1983. Those are two of her friends. I think they’re fighting not dancing…

This is me as the pirate "Burt the Belly".

This is [livejournal.com profile] morgan_lafaye from the same show.

Tom looks much younger then.

This is from a BYOS party in 1993.

My wife and her mother used to make a lot of cookies.

This is a day shot that is the same as the sunset photo I posted yesterday.

Yesterday’s:

This is another trip to Maine in 2001 where we rented a cabin right on the water.

When I say right on the water…

There was a seal that liked to come into the bay and play.

But, not when the tide was out.

It was a nice week. It was only a very short time after the whole 9/11 attacks. It was nice to get away from all that.

When my wife worked at the Ecotarium their zoo department took in many injured animals like this fox.

This is when we buried my father 14 years ago. The man on the far right also buried my grandfather in 1935. He came out of retirement to bury my father as he felt connected to my family.

He is the only person other than my father and his sister who I ever met who knew my grandfather.

And, at 94 years old was still willing to try and do the work.

(I took the shovel and finished the job…)

This is the house where my father grew up, his father grew up, his father and so on.

No one in my family has lived there since my grandfather died 79 years ago.

This is me and my friend Gary. I haven’t seen him in a few years as he moved back with his mother to take care of her.

This is from a BYOS party. Lou died about 10 years ago…

This is from our trip to Ireland in 1996.

This is my mother in law and myself at Thanksgiving, probably in 1994 or 1995…

I like the old gent, who came to bury your father.
And wow, a photo of me that I don't hate.
It is nice that you are sharing these. Interesting.

Yeah. I really can't say how much it meant to me that Mr. Rich came out to bury my dad. He was 94 at the time, but considered it his duty to take care of my family.
I guess my grandfather had gotten him a job during the depression and that was never forgotten.

There were hundreds of them. I came home from work and every flat surface in our apartment was covered in cookies!

????

What happened to the house where your father and grandfather grew up?

And how did Lou die? He looks so young in the photo....

For the balloons and superglue, we lived at the time in a building that was not in good repair. Just before we were going to have a party, one of the pipes in the bathroom developed a small leak and began spraying water across the room.
So, we wrapped it in balloons and covered it with superglue. The pipe eventually needed to be replaced, but it held for the party.

My grandfather died in 1935 during "the Great Depression". Economic times were very hard. He was the doctor in a small farming town in the north. The people of the town had no money to pay for his services, so traded him farm goods instead. This worked out well until he needed an operation and had no cash to pay any other doctor to do it.
He ended up in a hospital, but died anyhow. (The whole story is much longer.)
Because of this, he died in great debt and the house needed to be sold to pay it. My grandmother moved back with her family. My father and his sister were at college at the time and stayed there instead of going home.
The house has changed hands several times over the last 80 or so years since that happened. I don't know who owns it now.
One of my dreams, if I ever make a huge amount of money, is to go and buy it back. But, it is very far from where I live now (about a 7 hour drive) and I really can't afford to keep a house so far away I wouldn't use. And, jobs there are not really that much better than 80 years ago...

Lou died of a heart problem when he was only about 35 years old. He had surgery to try and fix the problem, but it did not work. It was very sad as he had two young daughters when it happened.

Nice photos, thanks for sharing!

Seeing the younger Tom, he looks a bit like my dad's dad.
