I've been a Doctor Who fan since my sister introduced me to the show in the mid-70's. As there is a Doctor Who museum (http://www.doctorwhoexperience.com ) in Cardiff. That was the closest airport to the class we were taking and that's where this is.
So, I wanted to go.
[livejournal.com profile] cosmicirony was OK with it, and I was driving the car anyhow...

So, into down town Cardiff we drove.

Cardiff reminds me a lot of Boston. Nice city. Lots of cool things. Nice folks.
Confusing streets.

The Google maps I printed were almost useless. The street names they gave might have been a good match for a map, but did not line up with any signs we saw. So, we drove around and around trying to find the spot. A couple of times I thought we were close from the signs for docks and such as I knew it was on the bay. But, we always ended up back in the city center.

I fired up the GPS in my phone and called for directions.
It said it was less than a mile away.
We were near a parking garage.
So, I suggested we park and walk what seemed like a short distance.

We walked.
And, walked.
And, walked.

Finally, about 3 miles later, I saw something I recognized as being near the bay on the show.

Of course, that is maximum zoom. We still had a ways to go.

It did turn out that we had been on the road parallel to this as we just didn't see it as the train track was in between and blocked the view.

After an hour's walk, we got to Torchwood.

I looked for that secret entrance. Really, I did. It looks like they put up a fence to stop people from looking for the secret rock.

There was this big pit across from the tower...

But, we still had to walk a ways to get to the Doctor Who thing.

The first thing we saw there was a good way to get back to the parking garage.

But, we decided not to take that.

They have a lot of really cool things.

I'm sure my wife would have liked the inverse of this one with what goes in the clothes and not the clothes themselves...

There was plenty of other cool stuff there too. But, eventually (after a visit to the gift shop) it was time to head out again.
Rather than the more than hour walk back to the car, we decided to take the bus.

Some very nice and helpful folks from Cardiff explained the fare and where to get off. Good thing too as we both would have missed it.

The hotel had a very complex wifi system where every device needed a different log in and password. And, they were only good for about 15 minutes before you needed to log in again.
It was very frustrating.

IT didn't matter too much. I fell asleep early and slept pretty soundly.

So far no such worries for me.
I have slept remarkably well in Wales. But, I've also been doing things so I'm very tired each night too...

There was this big pick across from the tower.
I don't understand these two sentences :(

The second one is a mistake typing from me and should be "pit" instead of "pick". My iPad sometimes autocorrects if I type something wrong and does not always guess well at what word I really wanted. I'll go back and edit it to be correct.

The first one is that my wife finds the actor very attractive and would rather I had a photo of him in no clothes than a photo of his clothes and no him.

LOL! I found the streets in Liverpool to be very confusing when we were there. It took us forever to find our hotel and then again trying to find the Beatles museum. I had printed out all kinds of Google maps in advance too that worked fine for the highways but not so well in the urban areas.

I would have loved that Dr. Who museum. We only did England and Scotland on that trip and I would love to go back and do Wales and Ireland someday.

I think they said it was there 2 more years. So, not permanent, but fairly long term.
I could be wrong about how much more time, but I know it was in years.
