A joke in German

This week we have been updating the computer drawing software we use for
our designs. Our IT department is in Switzerland. Having them thousands
of miles away and 6 hours ahead of us does not really make it easy for them
to help us in things like this.
So, they gave me the rights to log onto people’s computers and do the
update.

My lead designer has been working through all the installations for me.
“Maybe I should ask for permission to install,” he said.
“It took two years of argument for me to get it,” I said. “But, go ahead
and try if you want.”
“Maybe I just need to ask nicely. How do you say ‘please’ in German?”

I thought about it.
“Well, every time the head of marketing comes over here he hands me
something and says ‘Do this schnell!’,” I said. “So, as far as I can tell,
schnell means please, right?”
So, all week has been calling over to me “I need you to come over here and
put in your password, schnell!”
