Between the new job and shows each weekend, I really don’t have much in photos other than at the shows.
Here are the ones from the first weekend a the Midsummer Fantasy Renaissance Faire:

The other thing that has been keeping me from doing much else is our air conditioning at home broke. The week of 35C (100F) or more just made it stop.
The maintenance folks at the apartment complex say we’re something like 17th in line to get it repaired and expect it to take about 2 weeks.
They got us a temporary one, which is better than nothing, but it is still very hot at home and it doesn’t motivate me much.

The timing suggests that the air conditioning will be fixed right about the time we leave for our trip. We’ve still got to get ready for that.
My being unemployed for a month and a half slowed down the plans for booking things ahead. Now that I’m employed again I need to get back on track.

The new job goes well. Very interesting work. Good coworkers.
The drive in I can do in about 40 minutes if I leave at 5:30.
I tend to leave work at 4:00PM and it takes about 80 minutes to return. Some days, when there are issues on the roads, much more.
I did actually get paid at the end of June. So, it is officially a job. Before that first paycheck arrives there is always the chance it would turn out to be volunteering…

My first cousin twice removed got married over the weekend. We were not invited, and did not expect to be. Our cousin Tom did drive up from Florida for it and on his way back stopped for dinner with us Monday.
His wife (my father’s sister’s daughter) died 2 1/2 years ago, and he has started dating again.
Her sister died last year and her husband has already remarried.
They’re 82 and 86 respectively, so I guess they shouldn’t waste time.
I’m not certain where that leaves the relationship to me. They were cousins by marriage, but not any more?
They’ve been part of the family for more than 60 years now, I’m not going to say they aren’t. It’s just a bit strange to me to think about the connections.

On the subject of family, my brother hasn’t called me since I started the new job. When I was out of work he was calling me 3-4 times a week. Before that, nothing for 25 years.
I guess we’re back in another nothing zone.
I don’t really mind as we have nothing in common these days (other than our genetic material) and the conversations were all very strange.
But there is an element of “it’s quiet. Too quiet…” as I have so very little trust of him or my mother.
Hopefully we just passed close enough in the fog and will sail on our ways off to different places now.

Ugh, and just when it’s gotten hot too! If you don’t already own fans, I highly recommend the Vornado brand. They’re so much better than other fans at moving the air around, I haven’t bought anything else since I accidentally discovered them probably thirty years ago.

Hooray! That first paycheck is always a special occasion.

If you like them enough to spend time with them, I guess they’re moving from “blood family” into the “chosen family” category?
