It rained a lot earlier this week and then got very cold. This leaves the ground in that strange state where the mud froze and the ice sublimated out of it. So, it makes the ground crunchy to walk on.
I love that.

UPS was certainly working today as they were blocking our way out of our apartment complex.

We set off an hour or so west of where we live to visit the store opening of a friend of a friend of ours.

It is one of those places that there are a bunch of ways to get there, but they all take an hour.

We took the way that is shortest on miles and goes through the center of a bunch of small New England towns.

Yeah, that is ice on the lake. In the “heat” of the day it got up to 32F/0C. And, winter is still a month away.

We got there without problem.

The store had some nice glass work. But, it also had a bunch of strange things. Like fake plastic mustaches and iPhone stands made to look like pieces of used gum. Those other things come from a catalog we get at home. Bit strange in a glass art store.
But, we did buy some stuff. I was able to get a nice glass necklace to give my wife for Christmas. (Yeah, she reads this, but she was there when I bought it. So, no surprise.)

Then, back towards home. It is a very nice drive.

But, it takes a while.

East Brookfield is really into that candy cane thing.

As we were going to a second Thanksgiving dinner at [Bad username or site: “cissa @ livejournal.com] &
[Bad username or site: “cosmicirony” @ livejournal.com]'s house, my wife decided to make frosted cake balls for desert.
This usually ends up with her swearing a lot. So, I was dubious.
But, she had heard that there was one particular kind of chocolate that worked well for them.
So, even as it was the biggest shopping day of the year, we went to a store to buy some.
Only took 45 minutes to buy that one item. Not bad for Black Friday.

Surprisingly they were right and it went well with the cake balls. She made them all in less than an hour. And, she didn’t swear at them at all!

When we headed out to [Bad username or site: “cissa @ livejournal.com] & [Bad username or site: “cosmicirony” @ livejournal.com]'s house, we saw they are already making snow at the local ski area.

The cats, and dog, that live there were happy to see us. But, their cat Hooligan thinks shoes are his mortal enemy and does his best to dispatch them.

To distract him from that, they have a food puzzle for him.

While he spends his time trying to get the food, he doesn’t attack shoes.

My wife did get to pet the cat.

She really likes that, but is highly allergic. So, soon after this, we had to head home.

But, it was still a very nice time and I’m glad they had us over to share it with them.
Two days of Thanksgiving are better than one!

I wish glass girls website had more pics of her beads. I love lamp worked beads, but I am too clumsy to learn to do it myself.... I get burned with a glue gun ;-)

Ooo! The Hooligan pics just capture him perfectly! If you're OK with it, I'd love to post these on FB- they totally capture his essence. :)

Happy thanksgiving!

It's always fun to see pictures from other places. They give you an idea of how it is out there where you live.

Your wife has a really friendly face! I just know I would like her if I would meet her.

No photos of the cake balls or the nice glass necklace? :P

winter is still a month away.
Does winter start in January for you, then? (Or in general, in New England?) All the seasons on our calendar correspond with a certain degree of the ecliptic as observed by an observatory outside Nanjing, so winter for us already began several weeks ago, when the sun was at 225°C along the ecliptic.

The necklace is a present for Christmas, so no photos until then.
I can work on the cake balls as there are still some left.

Officially winter won't start here until December 21, about 2 hours after noon.
But, it gets cold here and starts to snow before that. The snow is actually late this year as we have had very little and often by now have had enough to shovel at least once.
But, I'm OK with it waiting.

So winter starts officially on Winter Solstice? I hadn't heard of that before, interesting.

Our dog attacks shoes. Also socks and toes ... it seems to be the whole feet thing .. just not happy to have them in her general vicinity.
