The last few days it’s just been one of those times that things happen, but
nothing really of super note.
Driving home yesterday I did see another car like mine.

Sunday it will be a years since I got mine and this is only the second I’ve
seen on the road. I’ve seen three others parked, but not moving. (OK, I
took the picture at a traffic light where it wasn’t moving either, but it
did just before and after this.)
Although I saw it drive right past where I bought mine, it had markings of
a different dealership. So, it must have just been passing through.

My cousin Katie’s husband Tom is up in the area to take photographs at the
World Irish Dancing Championships next week.
So, to get him up on the Irish, we took him to O’Connor’s pub. (OK, it is
our favorite place anyhow, so it is where we take most people.)
I had the shillelagh sticks as I so often do. But, this time they came
piled in a pyramid.

I’m not sure that’s very Irish.

(Yes, I agree. If I’m writing about how my food was piled on my plate, I
don’t have much to say. Some days, that’s how it is.)

As I write this, there are less than 24 hours before the arrival of Spring
here in New England. So, we had a snow storm last night to celebrate that.
I could tell I was the first one out of my apartment this morning.

Sadly, my wife is not feeling well and was going to call in sick anyhow.
The snow only confirmed her not wanting to go in. So, I took her car with
the all wheel drive and higher ground clearance.

Honestly, I don’t think my little Prius would have had much problem. The
roads were fairly clear, if a bit slippery. But, it’s not bad to have the
bigger car in the snow either.

I can’t say I’m looking forward to spring. I know once those plants start
having sex I’ll have weeks of not breathing well. And, I just don’t enjoy
that.
But, I can’t deny I’m tired of shoveling snow and cleaning off the car.
And, it is very nice when the trees are green and the air warm.
I’m just sure that after all the snow this winter the trees are going to go
at it with a vengeance.
Summer will come eventually. That will be nice.

All my northern hemisphere friends on my friends list are all commenting about the continued snow - is it unusual that it has dragged on this long this year?

The amount of snow today (15 or so cm) is a bit much for this time of year.
But, there is a good chance of snow flurries for another month or so.
We've had snow as late as mid-May some years, but usually the last storm is in April.

Uggh - sounds like a very long winter - bet you can't wait for some green Spring time in your area.

I think part of the problem is that last year we had record LOW amounts of snow. (Boston got 9 in inches all winter) And this year we're having record HIGH amounts of snow (Worcester just topped out over 100 inches).

So, what exactly is it that they put in those sticks, anyway?

In all my 48 years of living in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Mass - the ONLY month of the year in which I have NEVER seen it snow has been July. snow in August or June is very rare, but I've seen it happen more than once, so there is definitely a non-zero probability..

I remember one year when I was in college, probably 1983 or 1984, and I had gone home for Easter weekend to visit my family. It was April 15th, and the temperature was in the 70s, sunny, and pleasant. I got my motorcycle out of storage (didn't have a car then) and rode it the 85 miles from my parent's home to school. The next day, we got 22 inches of snow. It was a few weeks before I rode the motorcycle around again that spring..

That was 1982. I was in boarding school and all my friends took their heavy winter sweaters and coats home over spring break. But I stored mine on campus over the summer. So when that storm hit? Half my dorm was wearing my sweaters for a couple of days.

I like, in order:
Fall
Winter
Summer
Spring

But, the order has a lot to do with alergies. And, of course, my birthday being in the fall....
