We’re still cleaning, rearranging and moving stuff for our first new couch
since the 1980’s. Given the overwhelming amount of stuff in our apartment,
even moving stuff around to make room for new furniture is a challenge.

We have a lot of junk. Like my laptop from 1994. OK, it does still run.
It’s 80 meg hard drive might even have some useful information on it.
Might not too.
I can probably toss that.
Lots of video tapes of things that I now have on DVD, or can just be viewed
on Netflix.
They should probably go.

But, one of the things that takes up a lot of room is the large number of
games we have.
I love games. I do. I must have hundreds of them: board games, card games,
historical games, modern games, and everything in between.

Our spare room closet is full of role playing games. Everything from
Dungeons and Dragons (first, second and third editions) to Star Trek (at
least three different incarnations) to Star Wars (first and second
editions) to Doctor Who to Moorcock’s eternal champion (Elric, Hawkmoon and
Corum variants) to lots of Rift Books and super hero games and other
miscellaneous ones.
Some I’ve never played. Most I haven’t played since college in the early
80’s.
But, there they sit, taking up space. (And, I guess for some of them, time…)

I am reluctant to get rid of any of these as they represent fun with my
friends. Granted most of it is fun long ago. We still do our monthly game
night, but many of these games I’ve got are not really good for that. At
game night it is sad when we only have a 4 person game, 6 or 8 is better.
A lot of these games I’ve got are only for 2 people.

For the roleplaying ones, I can once in a while get a D&D game going, but I
haven’t played any of the other since at least the 90’s, most the 80’s.

But, those interactive story telling games are my favorites.
Logically I can see that they aren’t being used and the odds they will
again are very small.
They were doors to other worlds. A chance to go explore them with my
friends.
There is a part of me that doesn’t want to give up the chance to do that
again.

They take up too much space in my home.
I just wish there was an option other than throwing them out.
Some place that would be happy to have obscure games from 30 years ago…

As a recovering pack rat, I feel your pain.

I know there's been a recent resurgence of interest in table top gaming due in part to Wil Wheaton's Tabletop (http://tabletop.geekandsundry.com/). So there might be a market for those old games that you're not playing. If you get them out of your house, new people can have the chance to enjoy them.

Could you donate the games to a children's hospital?

You could take a few of them and gift them to people you care about and who would know you were giving them something you cared about. Maybe send a special one to the God Kids?

scan them and save them electronically, sort of like eBook, and sell the hard copy?

maybe we can hack out a plan to play one of the interactive/RP games on Friday?

If you have any D&D 3.5 that you're getting rid of let me know...trying to complete Jeff's collection!

And we have a lot of role playing books too...plus board games and their endless expansion packs!

J and I might be interested in 2-person games; most of the ones we have need 3-4+ people, so they're not fun when we're on our own.
