The forecast for this weekend is still split between two camps.
The national weather service and most places I normally get my information
are all saying about 1 inch/2.5cm of snow.
The local folks on the TV stations are saying “the national weather service
models are wrong” and they are predicting up to 14”/35cm. But, even they
say “if the storm moves as predicted there will be very little snow, so
this is the worst case.”

So, this leaves me in a quandary on where to put my faith.
The national weather service that does the whole country and might not be
as good on the small local level.
Or the local folks who are known to be somewhat “enthusiastic” in their
predictions of major storms as it is a huge ratings boost to them as
everyone tunes in for details.
I’m certainly hoping it is the lesser amount so we can have dress rehearsal
as planned.

Yeah, I sorta gave up on getting reliable local weather when the news stations were screaming the exact same "OMG SNOWPOCALYSE COMING" station breaks for the storm where we got 20 inches two weeks ago as they were playing for the storm where we got 2 inches a week ago.

I'd go with the National Weather Service. The local stations are all about ratings, not science.

I know how you feel.I have looked at NWS, local, and even checked accweather.com. All are different. Like you said, make the call on Sunday AM. If its been snowing hard and travel would be bad, cancel the practice, but it would suck if you canceled and nothing big happened. You'd never find all of us to get to practice.

Fingers crossed that it'll just be a dusting. I was looking at The Weather Channel earlier and they were saying possibly an inch of slushy snow here in NY, so hopefully you guys don't get hit too hard!

It'll definitely be interesting to see who's right about the weather!

Don't they all get their information from the same place? How can it be so different.

UGH, if it wasn't on such a critical weekend, I'd care less how much snow we'd get.

I agree that National Weather Service and the NOAA, even Wunderground sites are probably the better bets, as
Local TV, Weather Channel are all about the ratings, apparently.

I do give Harvey on Ch. 5 a little bit of credit, as he pointed out the OMFGWEGONNADIE reports of 14" and said "Unlikely!"
and then pointed out NWS and "European computer model" (huh?) with 1-2"
But then repeated several times either of these are a Big Maybe, and we won't know till it happens.
So he offered his middle-ground of 4-6". So...yeah....
