That is so cool
Sep. 16th, 2012 08:06 pmWhen I was young you never saw birds of prey in Massachusetts.
Near my aunt’s cottage they set up stands for ospreys, but I didn’t see one there until I was in my 40’s.
Slowly over the years, the reintroduction to them has been working well.
But, I never expected there would be a time I’d see one sitting on the balcony next to my apartment chasing squirrels in our courtyard.

Sorry for the quality. It was taken through the screen of my porch from about 12 feet away.
By the time I could move to a place not covered with screen, it had gone off after another squirrel...

Date: 2012-09-19 09:55 pm (UTC)There's a red-tailed couple that nest somewhere around our house- occasionally they perch in our trees. I can usually tell because the local crows are having hissy fits.
One time K and I were coming back from the library, and there was a smaller hawk dissecting a mourning dove in our driveway! I ended up parking on the street that day.
And another time, a VERY small hawk spent a morning perched on our bird-feeder and trying to look invisible. I think it did not work.
The osprey is very handsome!
