Vacation advice
May. 26th, 2012 06:11 pmMy wife and I are planning on visiting some friends in KY about a month from now.
We’ve been out there a few times before and seen all sorts of things.
One of our favorite things was The Frazier museum, which has the US branch of the Royal Armories and is very cool.
That we want to see again.
But, any other advice on what to see while we’re out there? We’re only going to be there a few days.
All suggestions welcome, but no promises that we’ll follow them.

Date: 2012-05-27 01:17 am (UTC)It is a very cool place (thermally as well) but it was crowded and my wife said she doesn't want to fight the crowds again.

Date: 2012-05-27 02:46 pm (UTC)There's Shaker Village, which is nice and has a good (if slightly expensive by KY standards) restaurant. That might actually be a very good match for your interests and it's a lovely property. http://www.shakervillageky.org/
Locust Grove historic home is a good short trip, it's in Louisville, and we reenact there a lot. http://www.locustgrove.org/
For small town shopping/antiquing there's Midway (home of the Debris sandwich, potroast with slaw, sounds weird...TASTES AMAZING) http://meetmeinmidway.com/
Another place that isn't KY but it's close-ish to us and can be a lot of fun is Madison, IN - we go up a couple of times a year for day trips, there's a lot to see and do. http://visitmadison.org/

Date: 2012-05-27 03:51 pm (UTC)Her other restaurant for out of town guests was the Boone Tavern in Berea KY (http://www.boonetavernhotel.com/) which is very pricy and requires a suit jacket and tie for me (which they provide if you don't have one). But the food is to die for!
