My wife and I are planning on visiting some friends in KY about a month from now.
We’ve been out there a few times before and seen all sorts of things.

One of our favorite things was The Frazier museum, which has the US branch of the Royal Armories and is very cool.
That we want to see again.

But, any other advice on what to see while we’re out there? We’re only going to be there a few days.
All suggestions welcome, but no promises that we’ll follow them.

We are visiting friends in Bardstown/Louisville in July. They are talking up touring the whiskey distilleries.

How about Mammoth cave? I have never been there, but I know you would like the name Mammoth.

That's one of the things we did last time: http://fbhjr.livejournal.com/357113.html

It is a very cool place (thermally as well) but it was crowded and my wife said she doesn't want to fight the crowds again.

Do you canoe? There's a decent canoe livery near here, easy but very pleasant day trips with good swimmin' holes. http://www.canoeky.com/

There's Shaker Village, which is nice and has a good (if slightly expensive by KY standards) restaurant. That might actually be a very good match for your interests and it's a lovely property. http://www.shakervillageky.org/

Locust Grove historic home is a good short trip, it's in Louisville, and we reenact there a lot. http://www.locustgrove.org/

For small town shopping/antiquing there's Midway (home of the Debris sandwich, potroast with slaw, sounds weird...TASTES AMAZING) http://meetmeinmidway.com/

Another place that isn't KY but it's close-ish to us and can be a lot of fun is Madison, IN - we go up a couple of times a year for day trips, there's a lot to see and do. http://visitmadison.org/

Adding a few more, keeping in mind that we are roughly equi-distant from Louisville, Lexington, Frankfort, and Cincinnati - there are a few good places in Cinci:

Krohn Conservatory http://cincyparks.com/krohn-conservatory/
(I think they MIGHT be doing a butterfly show at that time?)

Cincinnati Museum Center http://www.cincymuseum.org/
(The Pompeii exibit is there through August)

Seconding Shaker Village if you haven't been there. That was one of my mother's go-to restaurants when we had out of town company.

Her other restaurant for out of town guests was the Boone Tavern in Berea KY (http://www.boonetavernhotel.com/) which is very pricy and requires a suit jacket and tie for me (which they provide if you don't have one). But the food is to die for!

Oh, and if you're into antiquing, a place my mom took me last time I was in KY was this antique store -> http://irishacresgallery.com/ which had a pretty interesting and varied collection of antiques. Their restaurant is called The Glitz, and they're not kidding!
