WAM! Flowers!

Every year the Worcester Art Museum has a 4 day Flora in Winter event.
They get floral artists to make arrangements to match exhibits in the museum.

Of course, we like the other exhibits as well.

And, of course, benches.

I’ve always felt sorry for this woman.

She went to all the work of getting her portrait done and no one even knows who she was. Sad.
But, the flowers are only there for 4 days, so we did concentrate on seeing them.

Some are just general inspired things, some are linked to art work.

This one was particularly nice, especially with the fish.

Some seem well linked with their artwork.

Some only seemed to match colors. Or, not even that.

For instance, I don’t look at this one and see crowning of an emperor.

But, that might not be the first thing I think of in the painting either.

And, I just don’t see John the Baptist here.

Or Saint Matthew here...

And I don’t see this still life at all.

My wife and I disagreed about this one. She said the shapes and colors are match the painting well.

But, I don’t see the bleak cold in the flowers I see in the painting even if both have orange in them.

We did both agree that these ones did well in matching the color and “energy” of the paintings.

I did this that this got the feeling of the chapter house.

There is also a contest going on.

I like the museum, and I’m glad the exhibit is popular. Popular enough that we had trouble finding parking in the area.
But, I can’t say I enjoy the crowds.

We also ran into some folks we know there.

It is very nice. But, I am allergic to flowers.
So, there was a certain difficulty in lingering there. The good news was the smell of the flowers was only VERY strong in a few areas.
But, we did eventually go off to lunch at O’Connor’s.

Then up to the mall where we saw the movie Haywire. Despite the title it had nothing to do with hay or the wire so often used to bind it. But, we did like it.
Then, the mall so my wife could buy some new clothes.

All in all, a pretty good day!
