Dreams of ghosts
Oct. 12th, 2010 08:29 amI dreamed I was at my parent’s house. It was some sort of family get
together, but I’m not sure what.
My mother, her sister and her sister’s husband were there with us and we
were all standing in the dining room talking about my father.
As they talked about him, I heard his voice in the living room.
“I can’t believe they took this much social security out of my paycheck!”
he practically shouted. “This is ridiculous!”
“Did you hear that?” I asked the others. “I heard his voice in the living
room.”
“He’s dead, Frank” my aunt said. “You’ve got to accept that.”
“Then his ghost is shouting about social security in the living room,” I
said.
We all went out to the living room and looked around. As I moved around I
could hear his voice getting louder or weaker depending on where I was. It
was like tuning in a weak radio station.
Near the curio cabinet my mother has near the front door was where I could
hear him the loudest.
“This is the spot,” I said to the others. “Everyone gather around and
concentrate on bringing his spirit through.”
As we all concentrated, I felt something his my leg. I looked down and it
was our old dog, Ben, who had been put to sleep a couple of years before my
father died.
“Wrong ghost,” my mother said.
I didn’t care. I knelt down and played with the dog.
Dream ends
My father was never a shouter. And, I can’t remember him ever getting
upset about social security. I’m not saying he liked paying it. But,
since he graduated college in the great depression, and his father’s death
then left the family homeless due to the debt, he didn’t seem as against it
as some folks.
The last time I was at my parent’s house was the reception after his
funeral just over 10 years ago. The same folks in the dream were there
that day. So, maybe that is what it was supposed to be.
Despite being a regular church goer, my mother has quite loudly proclaimed
she “doesn’t believe in any of that life after death shit”. So, I can’t
imagine her being willing to try and summon a ghost. And, I suspect she’d
be too afraid of dredging up my father’s first wife’s ghost who everyone
else who lived in the house knew was there.
I did wake up from this one very happy to have seen Ben again. And, glad
that Ben was watching over my father.
