17 years, part three

For our 17th wedding anniversary, my wife and I went out to George’s Island in Boston harbor.
After lunch on the island, we continued to explore the fort. They only have on cannon left on the battlements, but we still went up to see it.

My wife says she could “see the French influence in the fort design”.

I agree it is similar to several of the castles we’ve seen in Ireland. But, I’m not sure I see the French.
But, French or not, I do like the views of the harbor and island.

We both had a lot of fun climbing up and around the fort.

There were parts that almost looked like an amphitheater.

But, maybe that’s Roman influence? They liked forts too...
The fort is supposed to be haunted by a lady in black. The story is that a woman broke into the place when it was a prisoner of war camp, accidentally killer her husband while trying to rescue him and then was hung wearing a black dress.
I didn’t see anyone in a black dress, but I did see women in black. Maybe they are the ghost?

We had tickets for the 3:30 boat back, but by 2 we were both tired. So, we decided to go to the dock and see if the 2:30 boat had extra space.

While we waited, the Aer Lingus flight from Shannon airport in Ireland flew over and landed at Logan Airport.

When we took our honeymoon in Ireland, this was the flight we took home, also landing on a Saturday. So, it seemed really appropriate to see it landing as we were getting ready to come home.
And, it flew over just about the time that our wedding happened 17 years before.
But, the seagulls were not impressed.

We did get onto the 2:30 boat and headed back into the harbor.

While in the outer harbor, the boat really cruised pretty fast, almost running over another sail boat that was in the way.

To give you an idea how fast we were going, we out ran this jet ski as we both headed to shore.

When we got to the inner harbor a much smaller boat full of people all holding beverages sailed up to us. Everyone on the smaller boat cheered and raised their drinks to us.

I was born in Boston and have gone on cruises around the harbor my whole life. I’ve never been welcomed back like that before!
Hooter Patrol was still in dock when we got back.

I’m not surprised, I expect it does most of it’s “patrolling” at night...
The trip out to the island and the boat ride were very nice and it was a very good time.

On the way back to the garage, we saw a break dancing troupe my wife has seen before getting ready to perform in front of the Aquarium, so we decide to watch.

They were very talented and did some very good moves.

They did one trick where they brought women out of the audience to do a flying jump over them.

They even gave one young woman lessons on how to bend over enough so she wouldn’t get hit.

The dancer did clear them all, which was very impressive.

Then, we paid (a lot) to get the car out of the garage and headed for home.
Although it was a very nice day and great adventures, I was happy to see home again as well.

After dropping off our stuff, we went out to the all meat all the time restaurant for dinner. It was very nice with very good food.
All in all, it was a great anniversary. I very much enjoy having adventures like this with my wife. I’m very happy for the 17 years with her as my wife.

Date: 2010-10-03 11:32 pm (UTC)On the side, I hate to tell you, but the Woman in Black on the Island is a total hoax. Apparently some of the Rangers back in the early 1990's decided to conjure up the story to get better interest and attendance at the fort. :P

Maybe made up in the early 70's, but not the 90's.
